Hi friends! In the spirit of #PostdocAppreciationWeek, I am sharing my very personal experience of NOT receiving a postdoc offer and how that changed my life for the better. I hope it helps someone who wants to move forward. https://t.co/CmX4sit7bw
@ThomasTalhelm Intersting study! Might be useful to test GPT in different languages, because how GPT performs critically depends on the language that it was fed to train the model.
“You are not just a vehicle for other people's healing. The reality is that you are deserving of healing for yourself.” —APA President @drthema#APA2023
@ThomasTalhelm Wow — 100 cultures! That must have been tons of work. Let me know if I can help with anything— it’s always a pleasure to read your work!
@JamieReilly_cog Laughed out loud on this one🤣. In industry, I never have to listen to the non-sense by senior white male professors, and that's worth a lot to me.
@EricNeumannPsy Haha my usual response is “yes, but that’s a super power I try to hide” then looking into eyes, with smile and silence. Works 100% with my software engineer colleagues 😂
@EricNeumannPsy I think it’s closely related to social class. Hard to imagine calling a low class person “elegant.” Frequently used by high class, snobbish people to differentiate they vs us.
So true. Recommendation algorithm is crafting people’s experienced reality. My social psychologist self is always amazed by my machine learning engineer self!
"All social media oligopolists, not just TikTok, should open their recommendation algorithms to scrutiny.
They are programming our minds and our societies."

@A_R_Palmer My transition was from psychology -> data science -> software eng in AI. Ask: what’s the most interesting job I wanna try? You will be surprised by how much opportunities out there in industry
Today, we have voted to support the expulsion of Russia from the European Federation of Psychologists' Association @EFPA_EuroPsy , as a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine.

I hope psychologists have more empathy for their participants. Online participants like MTurkers are being severely exploited by psychologists. And it’s totally rational for them to do some random responding. Calling them “shallow thinking” is condescending and ignorant.
What if the low effort, random responding we see on internet surveys is not an aberration, but a good reflection of how people really are? Maybe most people, most of the time, are just as shallow-thinking and random-responding in daily life. It would explain some things, no?
