NEW: Kash Patel filed a $250 million lawsuit Monday against The Atlantic after it published an article claiming he had “alarmed colleagues with episodes of excessive drinking and unexplained absences.”

Several officials told The Atlantic Patel “is known to drink to the point of obvious intoxication,” and that “on multiple occasions in the past year,” members of the FBI director’s security detail “had difficulty waking Patel because he was seemingly intoxicated.”

The Atlantic issued a statement in response to the lawsuit: “We stand by our reporting on Kash Patel, and we will vigorously defend The Atlantic and our journalists against this meritless lawsuit.”
