With his increase in usage of his sinker as he caters to the blister that got him injured for a bit, it has lead to less quicker PAs and 0 barrelled contact against him.

The other reason this is important is because the rise in usage took away usage from the other fastball group pitches, the four seamer and the Cutter. The Sinker he throws has a .308 xwOBA, while his cutter is at .427 and his four seamer is at .369. So he’s throwing his better pitch more than his lesser pitches. His ground ball rate with his sinker also sitting 10% higher than both pitches which is great for double plays.

Today he gets a Rangers lineup that L14 pitcher-adjusted vs RHPs ranks dead last in BOTH Batting Average AND Walk rate. 9 of the last 12 RHPs with 70+ pitches have gone over this line vs TEXT with the misses being 2 prospects called up (Ryan Johnson, Blake Tidwell) and Ronel Blanco.

Lastly, he is on 5 days rest here. He is 5/9 with 4 or less days rest and 80 pitches, he is 7/7 with 5+ days rest
