NEW from me: You may have heard about a recent House vote to repeal the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force.
What you may NOT have heard: A key player in that vote was the Friends Committee on National Legislation—a Quaker group on Capitol Hill. https://t.co/kawdsykzGx
“If this proposal becomes law, nearly 300 U.S. factories—mostly in red states—could close or never open, and we simply won’t have the energy we need to power American innovation in AI and data centers.”

As a Palestinian, entrenched in the conversations of our own political struggle, allow me to elucidate what we mean by “decolon!z@tion” and our aspiration for “from the r!ver to the se@,” terms often lost in translation or misconstrued in their intent, as a tactic to silence us.
Decolon!z@tion, in the lexicon of our Palestinian struggle, signifies putting an end to laws, policies and political institutions designed to subjugate us, to erase or render us invisible on our own land. This is not mere rhetoric; organizations like Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, and even Israeli human rights groups have laid bare the stark reality of what they have concluded constitutes the crime of apartheid against us. The majority of respected legal experts have agreed with their conclusions about our subjugation. Our plea for decolon!z@tion is not a call for any type of harm towards Jewish people; rather, it’s a fervent desire for a new social contract where freedom, justice, and dignity are not mere words but tangible realities, and where all people can thrive and prosper regardless of their backgrounds in our collective homeland.
What stands in the way of this future are unfair policies and political structures, many first entrenched by British colonialism, that continue to manifest in ethnic cleansing and apartheid practices like home demolitions, land confiscation, military laws that limit our freedom of movement and speech, suppression of our economy, and many different forms of collective punishment that we endure, all as an attempt to remove us from our land. Here we not only talk of past injustices - but about continued oppression that we face in the present. For example, in just the past month, nine Palestinian communities in the West Bank have vanished as a result of Israeli settler and government attacks, a stark reminder of the urgency of our cause and the erasure we face. In Gaza, a child is being killed every 10 minutes on average by Israeli bombardment over the last 43 days. Israel controls all our water and severely limits our access to it. Before this war 97% of water in Gaza was contaminated. 80% of water in the West Bank was siphoned off.
When we speak of "from the r!ver to the se@," understand that this geography encompasses the lives of approximately 6.8 million Palestinians, each group – whether in the West Bank, Gaza, or within Israel – all facing unique forms of oppression. In this land, shared with 6.8 million Israeli Jews and where millions of Palestinian refugees long to return, our vision for "from the r!ver to the se@" is simply a one where Muslim, Christian, or Jewish, each person is safe, unburdened by discrimination, and can practice their full individual and collective rights. This vision is one of accountability, of rectifying past injustices while laying the groundwork to prevent future ones against anyone. In this future, we don't just achieve our liberation and defeat anti-Semitism once and for all; we create a sanctuary where Jewish communities, bearing the scars of a long tragic history, can find unprecedented safety, a future where the Jewish people are safer than they have ever been, where they never have to live in fear. We carry this obligation of ending anti-semitism as we pursue a better future, even though the most significant harms caused by anti-Semitism, the holocaust and pogroms, were conducted by European nations, not by us.
In essence, our Palestinian call for decolon!z@tion and for freedom "from the r!ver to the se@" is a call for a shared humanity, where every person, irrespective of their background, is treated with the dignity they inherently deserve. We would be struggling for these basic rights whether our oppression was inflicted upon us by the French, Russians, other Arabs, Buddhists or even aliens from Mars. In our case, it just happens that the oppression we face is inflicted by people who identify as Zionist Jews, but keep in mind we did not choose our oppressors.

To the people celebrating the mass murder of Israeli civilians, you have lost your humanity. To the people enthusiastically calling for Israel to decimate Gaza, densely populated with 2 million Palestinian civilians, you have lost your humanity. Israelis and Palestinians are real people, just like you and me.
A summary of what's going on in Gaza atm:
This morning, fighters from Gaza carried out an operation that took Israeli by surprise, reaching Sderot, and taking Israeli hostages amidst a barrage of rocket fire. 🧵

As heatwaves grip the nation, House Republicans remain in their air-conditioned chambers drafting bills that slash public health & climate programs.
We must maintain funding for programs expanding clean energy, lowering energy costs & protecting public health. @rosadelauro
With Iowa experiencing the longest drought in 23 years, smoke from Canadian wildfires polluting Midwest air day after day, and nearly a quarter of the U.S. population falling under extreme heat advisories, we are seeing hazardous weather patterns as consequences of climate change
This week's visit by US climate envoy John Kerry to China after years of diplomatic disruptions could boost cooperation between the world's two biggest carbon polluters on the key issue of methane emissions https://t.co/8RrmRp13Dr
This is why climate action matters so much! Yesterday's air here in the upper Midwest was so bad it was equivalent to smoking 6 cigarettes a day! At 6PM on June 14th, the Twin Cities had an AQI of 196 and was officially the worst air of any city in the world
Last year Congress added $20 billion in conservation programs for US farms. Helps build soil, clean water, and support new farmers. Thanks to @RepDonBacon staff and a great group of Nebraska farmers & leaders for meeting to share why these programs are a pillar of the Farm Bill!
