🚶 BENGALURU'S FOOTPATHS ARE GETTING THEIR SPACE BACK

From July 1–10, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is running a 'Safe Footpath Campaign' across 1,000 km of road network — clearing encroachments from footpaths in all five city corporations.

📊 WHY THIS MATTERS

30% of every 1,000 road accident deaths in Bengaluru are pedestrians. The Supreme Court has been clear: walking on a footpath safely is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

🚫 WHAT'S BEING CLEARED
➡Illegal parking on footpaths (vehicles will be towed)
➡Name boards, chairs, tables, and kiosks blocking pedestrian paths
➡Vendors and shops spilling onto walkways

✅ HOW IT'S BEING DONE
➡Notices will be issued before any action — not a sudden crackdown
➡Action will follow the Street Vendors' Protection Act and SC guidelines
➡Municipal officers, police, and clearance teams will coordinate
➡Damaged slabs and kerbs will be repaired alongside clearance

It follows the #1KmChallenge encouraging people to walk short distances instead of driving — Bengaluru is trying to become more walkable, one footpath at a time.

ಚಾಮುಂಡಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟ ಎಲ್ಲ ಧರ್ಮ–ಸಮುದಾಯದವರಿಗೂ ಮುಕ್ತವಾಗಿ ತೆರೆದಿದೆ. ತಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಆರಾಧಿಸುವವರು, ನಂಬುವವರು, ಗೌರವಿಸುವವರು ಎಲ್ಲ ಜಾತಿ-ಧರ್ಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಆದರೆ, ಚಾಮುಂಡಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟ ಒಂದು ಶಕ್ತಿಪೀಠ. ತಾಯಿ ಚಾಮುಂಡೇಶ್ವರಿ ಹಿಂದೂ ದೇವಿ - ಆಕೆಯ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖ ಹಿಂದೂ ಗ್ರಂಥವಾದ ಮಾರ್ಕಂಡೇಯ ಪುರಾಣದ ದೇವಿ ಮಹಾತ್ಮ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿದೆ; ಬೇರೆ ಧರ್ಮಗಳ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರತಿದಿನವೂ ಹಿಂದೂ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಾನುಸಾರವೇ ಪೂಜೆ–ಪರಂಪರೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬರುವ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದೂ ದೇವಿಯಾಗಿಯೇ ಆರಾಧಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ದಸರಾ ನಮ್ಮ ನಾಡಿನ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಧರ್ಮದವರು ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಮೂಲತಃ ಅದು ಹಿಂದೂ ಹಬ್ಬ. ಅದರ ದಿನಾಂಕವನ್ನು ನಿಗದಿಪಡಿಸುವುದು ಹಿಂದೂ ಪಂಚಾಂಗ. ಯಾರದೋ ಇಚ್ಛೆ-ಮನೋಭಾವಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸುವ ಹಬ್ಬವಲ್ಲ.

ನೀವು ಒಂದು ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಹೀಗಿರುವಾಗ, ದೇವಿಯ ಹಿಂದೂ ಸ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನೂ, ದಸರೆಯ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನೂ ನಿರಾಕರಿಸುವ ದುಸ್ಸಾಹಸ ಮಾಡಬೇಡಿ.

ನಾವು ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ನೀವು ಓಲೈಕೆ ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಧರ್ಮದ ಮೇಲೆ ದಾಳಿ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ, ಅದನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ನಾವು ಎದ್ದು ನಿಂತಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಅಷ್ಟ ಮಾತೃಕೆಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬಳಾದ ಚಾಮುಂಡಿ, ಶಕ್ತಿ ಪೀಠಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಚಾಮುಂಡಿಯ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಹಾಕಿರುವೆ.

ಇಸ್ಲಾಂ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯಾನಿಟಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ನಕಲಿ ಓಲಾಟಗಳು ಹಾಕಲಿ.
