Maharaja Jai Singh Prabhakar of Alwar who ruled Alwar from 1892 to 1937.

Around 1920, while in London and dressed in ordinary clothes, he visited a Rolls-Royce showroom and was treated dismissively by the staff.

He subsequently returned in royal attire, bought six Rolls-Royces, and had them used for municipal garbage collection in Alwar. Later he ordered four more, making ten in total and all the ten Rolls-Royces car were used for garbage collection.

I thank every citizen who turned up at Lalbagh, under the leadership of 91-year-old Yellappa Reddy Sir, to oppose the 5% park diversion law.

I also commend the Chief Minister for respecting public opinion and deciding to withdraw this draconian law.

But the fight is not over.

Until the disastrous Tunnel Road project is officially dropped, neither Lalbagh nor the ancient Peninsular Gneiss Rock is safe.

Today, I argued before the Hon’ble High Court opposing the Tunnel Road project. The Court has directed the Geological Survey of India to place its report before it and fixed the next hearing for September 10.

The government has also amended the Karnataka Tank Conservation Act, reducing the lake buffer zone from 30 metres to just 3 metres to facilitate the Short Tunnel project at Hebbal Lake. This amendment too must be withdrawn.

Our fight to protect Bengaluru’s lakes, parks and green spaces, and for the sustainable development of our city, will continue.

And most of all, PM Modi is ensuring that India remains the ONLY country in the entire World which is amenable for talks, trade, and partnerships with each and every country.
