Kotak securities bans INTRADAY for 3 days (3rd June to 5th June) saying this is to curb volatility.
I don’t do intraday, so doesnt bother me but it is quite questionable and I don’t know if it’s legal to curb speculation in markets?
Free and fair trade should be the underlying principle. How can you prohibit people? By that logic @SEBI_India should shut the markets down whenever there’s a sensitive event around?
Tomorrow Kotak may decide to “auto liquidate” all outstanding positions via such a circular. Banana Republic? @KotakBankLtd
Also they want people to use “normal” order type to buy and sell something on the same day, (for these 3 days) which means 10x profit margins for them, because the brokerage is significantly high on normal delivery order types.
So basically is this one of those gimmicks to make “MORE” money in the name of risk management ?

IMPO: Chartered accountancy happens to be one of India’s most OVERRATED courses today. You slog hard-[very hard sometimes] for 4/5 years(even 8-10 years in case of people who do not clear it in the first few attempts), only to get very low average pays of 8-9 LPA and much worse (3-4 LPA) in Tier 2 cities. Infact we hire CAs for 30-35k a month, at my hometown, in Raipur. So I say it with a lot of "on ground" data at hand.
I find 5% of my peers at my MBA classroom are CAs- some even rankers etc, so it’s worth giving a thought - why do the best Chartered accountants of a nation, end up studying at B schools or end up doing courses like CFA, CPA, FRM, DISA etc? The reason is EXTREMELY LOW SALARIES across the board. Big fours barely pay you 8-9 LPA at the entry level for tough audit roles of 10-12 hours of daily rigorous hardwork. (Note : A large portion of the MBA/PGDM course is covered in the ICAI curriculum, and in some cases in greater depth- so it has largely nothing to do with the knowledge quotient)
(Also, honestly a CA usually has far more functional expertise esp in Accounting/ Finance etc than most other professions). BUT THE SAD BIT IS YOU DONT GET PAID FOR IT. Similar pay is offered at Banks, the Industry at large etc.
(Forget the packages of a few dozen rankers where you look at the CTC and think oh he makes xyz amount. It’s a mirage.) Articles by the @TheKenWeb did a fair bit of justice but were beaten down by the PR team of a few big shots at ICAI.
In my case, the pay etc : it does not matter. I’ve always had my entrepreneurial inclinations and never really wanted to do a job and will never do one. I happen to be an investor too, largely equity and some angel investing. (Though I have worked with EY and another Mumbai Mid Sized CA firm in the past),
but via this Tweet I do wish to ask all the position bearers at the ICAI, why do they not put a minimum CTC clause for companies that come for placements? Is it fair on a middle class guy who works/studies hard, for 5+ years to get JUST 8LPA at Tier 1 cities like Delhi/ Mumbai and make a ‘discretionary consumable post tax income’ of 5-6 lacs? How does he even save anything? Sad and shameful.
We have hundreds and thousands of teachers, and the "CA coaching business is booming", but even Bcom Graduates at Tier 1 colleges of DU (@UnivofDelhi ) and St Xavier's, Kolkata end up getting a similar entry level packages with much lesser efforts in studies. (And trust me I say it with personal experience, getting high scores in CBSE Exams aint THAT difficult. I got a 97%, enrolled for my BCom Hons at Hansraj College, in DU).
And then we people, all of us from CA Fraternity have all the same decade old coverups in the world where we post photos of Kumar Mangalam Birla and Piyush Goyal being CAs, very recently even Kotak Bank's new CEO was lauded for being a CA. (post @udaykotak stepped down). I mean proud of it, but not proud of a lot many other things!
I think a large part of teachers and students don't raise their voice from the fear of getting professional misconduct notices from the institute but we live in a democracy after all, somebody has to ask these questions.
Data : (Source ICAI's 74th Annual Report)
Average Salary at 55th edition of Campus Placements (ICAI) (For Dec'21 attempt) = 10.57LPA
Average Salary at 56th edition of Campus Placements (ICAI) (For May'22 attempt) = 12.48LPA
Just for reference, even the 98th B-School in the country (source: Rankings for management colleges as per NIRF, 2023), IIM SIRMAUR has an average pay of 16.4 LPA.
And if you think getting into an IIM is tough, (ask yourself is it tougher than doing CA) have attached the Average salaries for Non IIMs too.
SPJIMR, Mumbai for example has an average pay of 33LPA, when we talk of non iim's. (more than the HIGHEST PAY at ICAI's campus placements)
And for people who think/say "But CA is cheaper"- buddy, getting an education loan and repaying it is EASIER. You make 3x the salary for the rest of your life.
In short, ICAI needs to buckle up, big big time on placements.
