One of my favorite recent traditions:
On my student teacher’s last day, my students write notes for a “bad day” jar.
When she is having a “bad day” in her 1st year teaching - she gets to go into the jar and get some love. ❤️
@kelseybogan @FollettLearning Yes, please please please make this a feature that can be turned off. It's upsetting on a number of levels. It adds time. It feels like it adds unnecessary political layering. It doesn't even include all of the reasons I might remove a book.
A parent noticed Heartstopper 5 is targeted at a bit older audience and wondered if there is a big difference in maturity level of the latest. Anyone in book- or libraryland know?
@kellyyanghk@goodreads I thought it was odd Goodreads took MG away from their awards. Mg books are crucial in order to keep kids reading. @goodreads needs to reconsider.
Order up! WITH OR WITHOUT YOU is in bookstores everywhere today.
It’s a YA romance about reality TV, the stories we tell, and the truths we leave out. It’s about food, family, friends, and Philly.
Goodness, I hope you like it. And hey… no peppers. https://t.co/4UKYXjnrxb
Here is the list of books Scholastic says schools can exclude. Sadly, Efren Divided is amongst them.
Scholastic, please help us feel seen and valued, not excluded. Don't pander to those who wish to erase/marginalize us further. @Scholastic

"Studies show students tend to perform better academically with a certified librarian in school." -All students deserve access to a school with a school library staffed by a certified school librarian. @aasl#tlchat https://t.co/BF3hheSx2j
My daughter wanted to read Frankenstein in 6th grade because I am always saying how much I love it. She has always loved reading and challenging herself, but she was getting lost in the beginning of the story. She was ready to give up. I gave her a copy of the graphic novel, with ORIGINAL text, and she is now reading them side by side. Her confidence is regained. Why wouldn’t we have graphic adaptations in our classrooms? Why would we put up insurmountable barriers and cheat students of an amazing story? We are now discussing how our mental images differ from those in the comic - and that’s the beauty of paired texts.
"To consider using the library space in HISD campuses as a discipline center rather than as a site for learning and literacy demonstrates a concerning disregard for the education of HISD’s children."
@CarolineHuntoon I tweeted @jennyleeSD recently and she retweeted and I swooned, LOL.
Also got to meet her and other great authors at ALA and think you should go next year!
