the deeper issue is the mindset shift. engineering starts from a clear vision, you break the abstraction into discrete controllable pieces, implement them, and the feedback is immediate and absolute – it either works or it does not, pure classical binary

sales and marketing take the same vision and require you to externalize it as a story that lives in other people’s heads.

you still dissect, build and measure, but the system you are operating in never collapses to a clean zero or one.

an ad, a pitch, a message can be working and not working at the same time depending on who receives it, when, and in what context. that superposition is the part that feels alien.

engineers are trained to eliminate uncertainty through verification; this forces you to act inside permanent ambiguity where the only “truth” is probabilistic and narrative-driven.

imo that is why the whole thing feels so foreign and why so many of us end up "hating it".

In my view Anthropic has been losing momentum for quite a while now (product, hype, everything).
