Students, while you’re still in university, for the love of everything, learn how to use Excel properly. If you go out there and start asking how to use pivot tables in Excel, you’re done.. it’s 2024! And another thing: don’t ask, ‘How did you prompt that on ChatGPT?’ Stop with the lazy questions. Try it first, figure it out, and then, if something’s different, ask why. At least pretend you know what you’re doing.

Previously, when Lim Guan Eng took over the Ministry of Finance (MOF), he abolished the flat rate of RM20,000 for all companies if they do not want to pay the 3%. This meant that companies no longer needed to compute their taxes based on their chargeable income, which was quite a significant change. Following this, only certain activities were permitted, and companies had to comply with substance requirements to qualify for the reduced tax rate of 3%. As a result, Labuan is no longer an attractive option for strategic tax planning, although it remains viable for some specific business activities.

Just attended a lively session between top accounting professors and practitioners. One practitioner bluntly asked, "Why do many graduates struggle with basic tasks like tax returns, debits, credits, and financial statements?" The room fell silent, and the professor responded, "Well, that's a tough question." Critical gap in accounting education.
