The 80-year project to make this country completely car-dependent is complete, and now that you're trapped, you need to spend an average of $737 a month for your own economic and social mobility.
@evemmore I thought she was just in it for the money and was shocked to read a lot of people think the "correct interpretation" is that she was truly in love. Either way she's written in such a stupid way.😭
@Ichbins8@Sturgeons_Law I don't think the left is going to reject gay marriage soon. But you already see top democrat consultants saying we need to abandon trans people, reject feminism, and go even further right on anti-immigrant rhetoric. And new trump admin def wants to ignore "state rights."
@Sturgeons_Law@Ichbins8 I know what you mean. I think I'm just less confident that we "won't go back to that." The most popular media now is podcasters, streamers and pornography. And for one example, the most popular podcasters are pretty right wing. Some do openly hate trans people.
@Ichbins8@Sturgeons_Law I was very young. I'm not trying to make some qualitative judgement that things are definitely worse now. More to say I don't think things are definitely better now, especially given that Trump has not even reentered office yet. We don't really know what's to come yet.
@Sturgeons_Law I don't agree. Virulent misogyny, transphobia and racism are becoming more and more visible again, along with a general cruelty; all with an incoming aspiring theocratic authoritarian government ready to politically enforce these bigotries. It feels like the dam is about to burst
The implicit message of a lot the recent Discourse among Democrats is "How can we get these idiots to vote for us?" and the answer may be that the first step is to understand that they're not idiots.
We're gonna lose so bad. All people know how to do now is turn everything into a meme and empty aesthetic, and a way to perform a commodified, disembodied sexuality. Amusing ourselves to death for real.
@TheLincoln I think the "show not tell" advice is another common reason for this. It makes writers think they can't just "tell" readers what the character thinks through an interior monologue but instead have to always "show" it via describing/depicting actions.
not to be mean but i feel like y’all are… wildly naive about the kind of class consciousness you think is gonna flourish out of this, especially if you’re saying things along the lines of “idc that he doesn’t have the same ideological outlook as i do”
@lemonlikelady It's the naiveite and bigotry of it that frustrates me. A lot of people hold this romantic view of white "working class" coded men in particular and seem ready to team up with these people to form their own red-brown anti-establishment fascist alliance😭
@lemonlikelady Yes it's expected. But some leftists love to confuse every instance of anti-establishment, kill the rich, sentiment with people being on the "left" or sympathetic to the "left." But honestly I think the majority of these people in the US are more early fascists than lefties rn.
You people will treat your cats and dogs with more dignity than your loved ones who are faced with a slow painful death and no hope of their terminal illness improving.
Gotta be honest, this response is so horrifying to me. Yeah the “Not My President” messages in 2016 were stupid but I’m not gonna “this is fine” a guy running on the biggest mass deportation in American history
This is definitely a real phenomenon, but another truth many would prefer not to acknowledge is that many white women were happy to benefit from the feminist victories that suited them, but their views on gender roles never shifted all that meaningfully
