Pigeons can coo without fully opening their beaks.
Their puffed throat acts like a resonance chamber, amplifying low-frequency sounds produced deep inside the vocal system.
The result is that soft, familiar cooing sound we hear so often.

Lifer #15 from the trip.
The Broad-Billed Warbler.
This was an absolute surprise. Not the bird I ever was looking for. Saw It merrily hunting in and out of the bamboo thicket, and almost didn't click, thinking of it to be the Chestnut-Crowned Warbler.

Lifer No. 14
And the best of the sunbird picks from this trip
Mrs Gould's Sunbird
Named after Elizabeth Gould, the first person to paint the 80 odd Himalayan Birds for the book "A century of Himalayan Birds".

Lifer no 12, yes.
The Violet Cuckoo. One of the rarities from this trip.
The only bird from India with Violet in the name.
Observed it for almost an hour flitting between low canopy greens and open leafless trees.
Oh, And that little ant!

In their pin-striped attire, the Kashmir Nutcrackers are true show stealers. And what attitude they have...I am sure they know that Tchaikovsky has named his "Nutcracker" opera after them @indian_pitta@BirdWatchDaily@birdsofindia
And the last one of the Laughingthrushes that I clicked on this 10 day trip...
The amazingly pretty Red Faced Liocichla. One of the prized ones. Good to click, and awesome to observe.
Unreal design on wings.

The Fulvous Parrotbill.
An absolute golgappa of a bird, barely 12 cm, and with a bill that is almost non existent.
A nightmare to click, as it is notoriously restless, barely staying for a second anywhere.
