This is V. Krishna (picture from the site). Sometime in the 1970s, he started working on a Kannada-English dictionary as a hobby project. In 2019, through @zerodha, we collaborated with V. Krishna to open source and publish his dictionary online. The dictionary contains over 150,000 Kannada words with over 240,000 English definitions, and all of this was the effort of just one man.

Today, the free and open dictionary is being used by lakhs of people monthly. We recently met an Indic language researcher from the US who said that Alar has become an important resource in US academia for Kannada and South Asian language studies. It's amazing to see this single-handed effort being recognized and appreciated in different parts of the world.

Why is #SaveBandipura trending ?!

1) Kerala govt is doing final location survey for Railway Line between Nilambur - Nanjangudu via Bandipura

Successive KA govts in the past have rejected the Thalassery - Mysuru railway line still they are pushing for the other line through Bandipura forest.

2) Kerala has asked Karnataka to do some relaxation in Night Traffic Ban in Bandipura for Emergency services.
Why they need Mysuru ? They can go to Kohzikode or they can build a Multi speciality hospital in Wayanad only right !

The #SaveBandipura campaign to avoid two above mentioned points.

Kerala is know for Dumping Medical waste at the borders of Karnataka and TamilNadu & any changes in Night traffic you know what they will do.

The Bandipura & Nagarahole is the main forests of Karnataka in Nilgiri Biosphere which hosts the maximum number of Asiatic Elephant’s & Tigers in India.

We should voice to protect our Wildlife & against the Mallu Lobby which is dangerous for our forest and our Cities too

ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯದ ಕುಮಾರ ಪರ್ವತ ಅಂದಾಕ್ಷಣ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ಬರುವುದು ಎತ್ತರದ ಬೆಟ್ಟ ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಾಲಿಂಗ ಭಟ್ರ ಊಟ ಆತಿಥ್ಯ. ಕುಮಾರ ಪರ್ವತಕ್ಕೆ ಚಾರಣ ಮಾಡುವವರು ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯದಿಂದ ಕಾಲುನಡಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಟ್ಟ ಅಡವಿಯ ನಡುವೆ ಸುಮಾರು 7km ನಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದ್ರೆ ಸಣ್ಣ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ತಪ್ಪಲಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಮನೆ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದೇ ಗಿರಿಗದ್ದೆಯ ಭಟ್ರ ಮನೆ. ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಕುಮಾರ ಪರ್ವತ ಚಾರಣ ಒಂದು ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಯುವಂತದ್ದು ಕಷ್ಟ ಸಾಧ್ಯ ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಚಾರಣಿಗರು ಭಟ್ರ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದುದಿನ ನಿಂತು ಮಾರನೇ ದಿನ ಪರ್ವತ ಹತ್ತಿ ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆ ಒಂದು ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಟ್ರು ಕೊಡುವ ಅನ್ನ, ತಿಳಿ ಸಾರು, ಮಜ್ಜಿಗೆ ಉಪ್ಪಿನಕಾಯಿ ಅಮೃತಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮ. ಭಟ್ರು ನಗುನಗುತ್ತಾ, ಮಾತಾಡಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಊಟ ಬಡಿಸುವಾಗ ಎಷ್ಟೇ ಕಲ್ಲು ಹೃದಯದವನಿಗಾದರೂ ಮನಸ್ಸಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಲಾಗದಷ್ಟು ಗೌರವ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ತುಂಬಿ ಬರಬಹುದು. ಭಟ್ರ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಡುವ ಆತಿಥ್ಯ ಯಾವುದೇ 5ಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಹೋಟೆಲಿಗೆ ಕಡಿಮೆಇಲ್ಲ.

ಈ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಕಾಡಿನ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಬದುಕುವುದು ಸುಲಭದ ಮಾತಲ್ಲ. ಅವ್ರಿಗೆ ದಿನಸಿ ತರಬೇಕು ಅಂದರೂ, ಏನೇ ಖರೀದಿ ಮಾಡ್ಬೇಕು ಅಂದರೂ, ಅಸೌಖ್ಯ ಆದರೂ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ 7 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ ಕಲ್ಲು ಮುಳ್ಳುಗಳ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲ್ನಡಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದು ಖರೀದಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಮತ್ತೆ 7 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ ನಡೆದುಕೊಂಡೇ ಮನೆ ಸೇರಬೇಕು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ತನಕ ಅಕ್ಕಿ, ತರಕಾರಿ ಇನ್ನಿತರ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತುಕೊಂಡೇ ಹೋಗಿ ಅಡುಗೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಬಡಿಸುವ ಅವರ ವಿಶಾಲವಾದ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ದಿನ ಇರಬೇಕಿತ್ತು. ಎಲ್ಲರ ಹೃದಯ ಗೆದ್ದಿದ್ದ ಭಟ್ರು ಇವತ್ತು ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಹೃದಯಾಘಾತ ಆಗಿ ತೀರಿಕೊಂಡರು ಅನ್ನೋದು ದುಃಖದ ವಿಚಾರ.

ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಬೇಕು ಅಂದ್ರೆ ಆ ಮನೆಯ 60ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ದೇಸಿ ಹಸುಗಳು, ಕರುಗಳು ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಯಜಮಾನನನ್ನು ಕಳಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಚಾರಣ ಪ್ರಿಯರು ಒಬ್ಬ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಅನ್ನದಾತನನ್ನು ಕಳಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕುಮಾರ ಪರ್ವತ ತನ್ನ ರಾಜನನ್ನು ಕಳಕೊಂಡು ಬರಿದಾಗಿದೆ.
