Telling an eighty-year-old woman to "check the portal" for serious biopsy results is cruelty disguised as digital efficiency.
My 82-year-old aunt had a lung biopsy done two weeks ago.
The doctor told her they’d have the pathology report ready within five business days.
Friday afternoon rolled around. No call.
She dialed the clinic’s main desk, her voice shaking with anxiety.
The receptionist cut her off before she could finish explaining:
“Doctor doesn’t give results over the phone anymore. All lab findings are automatically released to your MyChart patient portal.”
My aunt said, “Sweetheart, I don’t have a computer. I have a landline on my kitchen wall. Can the doctor just tell me if I have cancer?”
The receptionist sighed into the receiver:
“It’s hospital network policy. We can’t bypass the portal. You’ll have to have a family member create an account and view the file.”
My aunt spent an entire seventy-two-hour weekend sitting in her recliner, gripping her reading glasses, convinced she was dying.
I drove out to her house on Monday morning, set up a profile on my laptop, and pulled up the records.
The result was benign.
The pathology report had been uploaded four days earlier.
A doctor spent three minutes clicking an upload button, and an elderly woman endured four days of sheer psychological terror because the hospital decided a phone call was too expensive.
Since when did delivering medical news become a self-service task?
@JDaviesPhD Postnatal exhaustion - support to get rest not just given a drug that in my case stopped me sleeping which was the issue in the first place! Created a situation as a family we did not need to go through
@MargieBach2007@FrontlinesTPUSA@Bodittle@TPUSA You are right, pumped full of meds. No one will ever know what this is like. I’ve been there. Started off mild depression. Got antidepressant, stopped sleeping. Kept giving me more and more meds. I was a million miles away from who I was. The scariest time is my life

If you want to summarise just how messed up the United Kingdom is in a single sentence:
The UK government believes that 11 year olds are too young to watch YouTube but old enough to block their puberty and render themselves infertile.
This morning, I appeared on Good Morning Britain in a live interview about the grooming gangs. Before I went on air, I was told not to mention the race of the perpetrators. I, of course, didn’t listen.
I have now received an apology from the editor.
My interview is below: 👇🏻
St George’s was pro-Cathedral of the Diocese of Beverley from 1850-64, and then St Wilfrid’s from 1864-78. How appropriate that Bishop Marcus should walk between the two in York’s Corpus Christi Procession yesterday.

Streeting spent a considerable amount of time listening to harmed and bereaved families, sometimes against the wishes of his officials. (1/4)

What a broadside from @SorchaEastwood at PMQs.
The Northern Irish MP tore into Keir Starmer over Labour’s failing economy and the cost of living crisis, visibly furious as she laid into the floundering and weak Prime Minister.
