⚖️ Section 6: Guarantees non-discrimination and equality.
👩🦽 Section 10: Protects women and girls with disabilities.
👩🎓 Section 12: Recognizes and promotes the rights of youth with disabilities.

👇Today , young persons with disabilities came together in a learning and sharing forum, where they exchanged lived experiences, built solidarity, and reaffirmed their commitment to engage in electoral processes in diverse capacities. Their voices and participation are vital to building a more inclusive and representative democracy. 🗳️
🛠️ Priority Areas for Strengthening Political Participation
While the legal framework is progressive, there is a pressing need to reinforce it with practical measures:
Amend the Elections Act and the Political Parties Act
Introduce clear provisions guaranteeing the representation of young persons with disabilities in legislative and decision-making spaces.
Promote Party Membership and Registration
Encourage persons with disabilities, especially youth, to register with and belong to political parties. Current data indicates that the numbers remain very low, undermining their collective influence.
Targeted Support for Political Aspirants
Establish affirmative measures and financial support, including campaign financing, for young persons with disabilities who aspire to vie for political seats.
Provision of Reasonable Accommodation
Ensure that electoral processes are fully accessible through reasonable accommodations, as guaranteed by the Act , covering registration, voting, campaigning, and participation in political discourses.
