Why the exemption? Because the U.S. doesn’t have the manufacturing base to replace these imports. It’s a painful reminder that decades of offshoring left the country vulnerable and dependent.

You want real strength? Rebuild domestic production. Until then, we’ll keep exempting the very things we claimed we’d decouple from.
