I feel like while genuine mansplaining exists, the word is thrown around too readily. I’d like to think I can distinguish when someone is just really excited about a topic I happen to be interested in as well from when someone condescends to me.
Lots of humanities people getting sniffy about this but I think it's basically correct. Lectures are usually a waste of time, the ensuing Q&As are unbearably self-indulgent, & everything would be better if we were just reading each other's written work in our own time.
So many of my formative intellectual experiences involved reading books I was too young to properly understand & finding them all the more compelling & stimulating as a result. You should make kids read great books!
