Today, @theJagmeetSingh talked to me about the death threats that put him under heavy RCMP guard in the winter of 2023-2024. Here's what he said: https://t.co/1gluUILJBu #cdnpoli. .
Thank you, Canada — for trusting in me, for challenging me, and for granting me the privilege to serve the best country, and the best people, on earth.
Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people.
Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.
Today, we celebrate the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji — the founder of Sikhism. His legacy of peace, unity, and compassion is felt in communities across the country and around the world.
Wishing everyone celebrating a very happy Gurpurab!
For Immediate Release,
-- Statement from Dupinder Saran, former BC Conservative Candidate for Surrey-Panorama:
Effective today, I am withdrawing my name from the ballot for the 2024 BC election campaign. I recently removed myself as a BC Conservative candidate following John Rustad’s secret deal with Kevin Falcon. At that time, I announced I would run as an independent candidate.
I am very disappointed with how the Conservative Party of BC has handled this entire process and I feel disrespected as a racialized candidate. However, the weaknesses of John Rustad have also been made clear to me. Before I became an independent candidate, there were hateful anti-Sikh posts circulating and Rustad’s BC Conservative party refused to defend and support me. It has become clear that I was used as a “Brown Token” for the party, to serve their purpose of attracting Sikh, and minority supporters and then easily cast aside. Another BC Conservative position that made me realize that they do not represent me was that they are actively considering bringing back the RCMP in Surrey if they are elected. I do not think the people of Surrey want to bring back this old debate that has gone on for far too long .
For years, I have worked hard to establish strong relationships in my community and my supporters encouraged me to continue representing them as an independent - but we cannot run the risk of John Rustad’s candidate being elected in this riding. I no longer believe that the Conservative Party of BC holds the values that they pretend to. If they can’t stand up for their candidates, how can they stand up for Surrey ?
I have decided to endorse and throw all of my support behind Jinny Sims, the BC NDP Surrey-Panorama candidate and incumbent.. As one South Asian woman to another, I will support Jinny in whichever way possible. With myself as a Registered Nurse and Jinny as a retired teacher, together we can support Surrey’s healthcare and education needs to benefit our community.
Signed
Dupinder Saran

Put the partisanship aside & what ever you think of Jagmeet (or anyone else) as a political leader.
This whole "Sellout Singh" schtick is deeply offensive as a Sikh. Singh is a title bestowed upon Sikhs by the grace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It's not something to be mocked or weaponized like this. It has deep religious significance and should be uttered with respect.
You want to attack Jagmeet's politics? Go for it.
You want to come up with a catchy, gimmicky, tag line to go at him as a communications tool? Sure, that's politics.
But "Sellout Singh" is not it.
Think of something else that doesn't play into Anti-Sikh rhetoric. I'm sick and tired of it as racism and violent attacks against Sikhs and others alarmingly rise in this country. Be more mindful and thoughtful. It's not a game.
It matters even more because Jagmeet Singh himself is an initiated Sikh, one that follows and keeps all the articles of faith, and takes the title of Singh as a religious duty.
Stop it. Come up with something else. This ain't it.
It’s amazing how @HarjitSajjan has become the target of racism by the selective #Canadian media/press ! Imagine if it was another minority other than #Sikhs who were evacuated, there’s be no such targeting ! Absolute disgraceful reporting by the usual suspects @globeandmail
Over the last two days, the surge of unhinged coordinated hate and vitriol against Sikhs, has reminded every Sikh parent to commit to four key principles for themselves and their kids:
1. **Gurbani/Guru’s Word:** Immerse in the wisdom of the Gurus. Meditate daily, understanding that life is a continuum. This phase is neither the beginning nor the end. The world is burning with hate, it needs saintly men/women more than ever.
2. **Twarikh/History:** Read and narrate Pracheen Panth Prakash. Sikhs have faced these challenges before. Learn from our forefathers' experiences and navigation.
3. **Shaster/Bear Arms:** In every century, tyrants will try to and every once in a while be successful in pinning us to the wall - individually or as a group, leaving the only choices to fight or live undignified. When our time has come, let Gurbani guide us to choose the former. "ਜਬ ਆਵ ਕੀ ਅਉਧ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਬਨੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤਬ ਜੂਝ ਮਰੋਂ ॥” The saint soldier concept is fundamental to Sikh faith and neither is complete without the other.
4. **Continue seeding Love and Seva:** Don’t let hateful individuals from any community break your bonds with friends of that community. Hold firm to your convictions while empathizing with others' experiences. Broken bonds are exactly what the hateful seek. Our Guru formed us to aid those in need, which terrifies tyrants. The attacks on Sikhs are a reaction to the farmers' protest, which demonstrated governance driven by empathy, equality, and goodness for all. This idea getting seeded in people’s mind and the solidarity scared supremacists and the greedy. May Gurbani's love for Sarbat prevail beyond faith, creed, and caste. The coordinated virtual attacks indicate we are winning hearts on the ground. I've seen this in India, talking to students from various states visiting gurdwaras in Canada and US, and having business conversations people from diverse communities across North America. Let our conduct, not just our words, speak for us.
To our Hindu brothers, we love you, as we do all of the Creator’s creation—including Muslims, Christians, Jews, atheists, friends, and enemies. Don’t let virtue less and hateful individuals represent you or be the loudest voices from your community, online or in real life. What we sow, we shall reap.

Canadian politicians tell Sikhs to assimilate but I think our culture is good. We need more of it.

Next time Poilievre talks about protecting free speech, remember that he stood by and watched as a young Sikh man was physically attacked for exercising his right to free speech by speaking out against him.

This children’s course is based on the Bani of Barah Maha, revealed by Guru Nanak Sahib and Guru Arjan Sahib. The Gurus have transformed this folk poetry based on nature's changing seasons into a spiritual journey of love. Through it, they have explained the connection between a human being and Vahiguru that an ordinary person can easily understand.

MYTH: "Khalistanis harassment/attacks on Hindu Canadians is well-documented & widespread."
FACT: This is just patently false, Sikhs and Hindus get along well, & the "Hinduphobia" petition must be scrutinized.
1⃣ Hate Crimes - While national statistics do not provide specific data points for hate crimes against Hindus, because of the low number of occurrences, large police forces do release hate crime reports. Most Hindus live in the Greater Toronto Area, and this is what their police forces have to report in their latest updates:
⚫️ Toronto Police, which covers the city of Toronto, had zero hate crimes against Hindus in 2021.
⚫️Peel Regional Police, which covers Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon, had zero hate crimes against Hindus in 2022.
⚫️ York Regional Police, which covers the cities of Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan and multiple towns, reported one hate crime against Hindus in 2022.
While every hate crime is deplorable and must be denounced - of all major world religions, Hindus are, thankfully, one of the least targeted in Canada.
2⃣ Mandir Vandaliams - Both Peel Regional Police and Toronto Police have not ruled out a false flag operation in relation to various Mandir vandalisms this year, as investigations are ongoing.
⚫️Pro-India and Hindu Nationalist actors and outlets claimed, without evidence, that the pro-Khalistan and anti-India graffiti was done at the hands of Sikhs. All vandalisms share similar styles and markings, and the lack of CCTV footage, even where cameras existed, has perplexed many, including investigators.
⚫️ Back in February, the Ontario Gurdwara Committee (OGC) offered a $10,000 cash reward for any information that would lead to arrests on behalf of the Hindu community. The OGC has confirmed with @BaazNewsOrg that they have not had anyone reach out with information yet. It does not appear any Hindu organization of Mandir matched the reward or offered rewards of their own.
⚫️ Queensland Police, in Australia, which experienced similar vandalism at the same time, shared in disclosure documents recently released under a Right to Information request that they believe the vandalisms in Brisbane "may have been done by Hindus themselves" to malign the Sikh community and build up political acceptance of “Hinduphobia.” They also shared suspicion as to why the security cameras happened to not be working during the incident - a similar theme in Canadian examples as well.
3⃣ Caste - Some Hindu Nationalist organizations and activists, including those that are now supporting a Parliamentary Petition for Canada to recognize “Hinduphobia,” have used the term to halt Dalit advocacy for more anti-caste awareness and measures at schools and government. Hindu Nationalist activists argue that fighting caste oppression is “Hinduphobic.” A position that Dalits and their allies find absurd and an example of how “Hinduphobia” is being weaponized to silence legitimate concerns of oppressive practices.
4⃣ American Data: While Canadian national hate crime data is not broken down for the Hindu and Sikh religions, we do have access to FBI hate crime data in America, which provides an interesting perspective on the scale of the problem (the Sikh diaspora is smaller in America. However, the Hindu diaspora in the US is much larger than it is in Canada). In the latest update, from 2022, Sikhs faced 181 hate crimes, the second highest for any religion, while Hindus experienced 25, the second lowest for any religion. Again every hate crime must be denounced, but important to see the data to understand the scale of the problem.
5⃣ Community Relations, Census Data, & Politics: Hindu and Sikh Canadian communities get along very well. When looking at the ethnic breakdown of both groups, while Sikhs are almost entirely Punjabi, there is a lot of ethnic diversity amongst Hindus. Many Hindus in Canada are from communities like Tamils and the West Indies. There is no history of animosity between these people - even politically.
Conclusion: Sikh advocacy is against the Indian government, not the Hindu religion. Many in the community believe the petition to have "Hinduphobia" recognized is not actually based on data but will be used to stifle Sikh dissent against the Indian far-right Hindu Nationalist government instead. It is feared it will be used to silence other advocacy as well, including Dalit organizing around fighting caste-based oppression, for example.
