True. But no witness saw Zimmerman’s head being slammed into the concrete which steps it up from an ordinary scuffle to a life-threatening situation justifying lethal force in self defense.
Also, Zimmerman is the only living witness to the build-up and initial aggressors can’t use a self-defense argument.
@Lex_Jurgen@ConceptualJames X on For You is like Tik Tok without the dancing. I like the app so much better now that I instinctively set it to following as soon as I open
@miketermaat_@RepLuna Remember when you used to pretend to be a libertarian? Back then you might have replied that actually all organizations ought to be tax exempt. Crazy times.
@LarkinWilder I don’t see that a victim has a moral responsibility to fight their attacker. You could perhaps argue that once you become a parent you have a responsibility to prevent your children from being victims.
California has a large enough D majority that they did the calculation that R could be completely shut out of general elections if they implemented a top-two primary. It’s been wildly successful, although the party had a bit of a scare when the governor vote was so evenly split it wasn’t clear any D would be on the ballot. They were forced to sacrifice one of their candidates to prevent the possibility.
The Dem establishment may prefer Bass over Raman, but the potential of a Pratt victory in the largest, bluest city in the country is their worrr case scenario. As unlikely as it is, they could not risk another five months during which any natural disaster would once again show Bass’ incompetence with Pratt the only other name on the ballot.
Because the D partisans making this argument would be defending her if the roles were reversed. If you really want to end corruption, you need to be the R denouncing Trump or a D denouncing the Biden family corruption (back when it mattered). Otherwise, you’re not really opposed to corruption, you’re just a partisan.
@leousn@bennyjohnson It’s not the D/R split as much as that as soon as Bass received enough votes to be assured of getting to the general election, she stopped receiving votes and Raman, who had spent the entire campaign as an afterthought started getting all the votes.
@RepMikeLevin@IlvesToomas We’ll elect a Dem president in 2028 and that will be the end of the Corruption Chronicles. Not the end of corruption, just the end of you giving a fuck about corruption.
@MarioNawfal This is the Hoppean argument that the permanence of an authoritarian government incentivizes long term planning, whereas the ephemeral nature of corporate monopoly—similar to democratically elected government—incentivizes monetizing your power as quickly as possible.
@Lex_Jurgen As someone who had a bit of leadership in a third party, it was so frustrating listening to them go on and on about how much they loved democracy and then do everything in their power to keep people off the ballot
