Our work shows how ecological “niches” are almost endlessly divisible. Even under strict laboratory conditions, the E.coli population had heterogeneity that phage species could rely on. (7/8)
YES to all. Virtually every single point in the post resonates with my own experience. I think it's a great read for folks starting their labs, particularly in the US but many of the points apply elsewhere too.
Our study on the biological relevance of novel microbial gene families is out today. Peer review & comments really improved our 2022 preprint: better func. predictions, experimental validations, structural models & impact on microbiome association studies.

If sharing an Onion article is grounds for this, make sure never to accidentally watch the wrong TV show or read the wrong book. Never laugh at a joke someone else may not like. Also, do not express concern for the deaths of undesirables, if you wish to have a career in academia.

@GelbachPatrick I see. It'll be interesting to try to figure out how to classify interactions if we end up using this tool. Thank you for your clear reply and the code!!
@GelbachPatrick I read your paper as part of a comparison with multiple FBA-based methods, and I found it very interesting😊 congrats
Do you think it is feasible to explore the space of interaction types (fig 2) for communities of 3 or even more members?
Also, is the code available anywhere?
