Yesterday Harare City council swore in its councillors, Bulawayo did the day before.
All urban councils are under the opposition CCC.

Zimbabweans have been let down by councils on many fronts before, so we are expecting a radical change from previous councils.

It starts with electing a credible mayor who is not just a political appointee, but a competent leader who knows what needs to be done.

Councillors should start by STOPPING to “steal” our land please, every councillor has gotten land in the past, something inherited from the ZANUPF days of the 80s and 90s and not changed by opposition run councils.

This has to STOP because it has attracted useless and corrupt councillors.
Councillors should come from professions and they should be in council to give back to society.

Councillors should be people who have something to contribute to society and not people looking to steal from society using corrupt regulations set by themselves.

ZANUPF has stood in the way of councils on many issues, but not every failure is caused by ZANUPF.

In 2019 I got 10 ambulances and 10 fire engines for Harare city council from England.
I called Nelson Chamisa and he spoke to the UK benefactor, Harare City council failed to simply do the paperwork to get the vehicles in their name.

That was not caused by ZANUPF, that was just sheer incompetence by the council.

Harare city council has hospitals, ZANUPF won’t stop the council leadership from making sure that they work well with international partners that include Zimbabweans abroad.

In 2019 I set up Save Our Hospitals after a video of a doctor crying went viral.
Save Our Hospitals brought in millions worth of goods into central hospitals mainly from Britain.

ZANUPF didn’t stop me, the permanent Secretary gave us duty free certificates each time we had goods coming.
Don’t give us an excuse why something can’t be done, try and do it and let us see you being stopped.

Excuses have been used to justify incompetence in our politics by both the opposition and the ruling party.

The council has failed to efficiently offer basic service delivery like rubbish collection or simply cutting grass in urban areas, but it spent millions of US dollars sponsoring a football team.

This is an example of failing to get one’s priorities right, and it has nothing to do with ZANUPF.

So many times councillors have told us why they can’t do something, this time please try and do it so that we see ZANUPF stopping you.

We can’t be a nation of excuses, we want to see ZANUPF stopping you from implementing the great ideas that you have.

Harare city council is in charge of businesses like Rufaro Marketing where there has been a lot of corruption even in the last term.

That must STOP, we will be watching how council assets are handled and we won’t hesitate to expose any corruption by crooked councillors.

Harare city council has farms, they must be fully utilised to generate revenue and not simply wait on rates from hard done residents.

We need an innovative council that uses the council chamber as an engine of ideas and not simply mourn yet when you were campaigning for votes you said you would get things done.

Democracy requires councillors to choose their own mayor, but we know how disastrous that has been in the past.

Councillors have been paid by criminal syndicates to elect captured individuals in the past, so this time councillors must choose their party’s choice for mayor so that the party is held fully responsible for any failures or successes.

Council business must be open, all councillors must be on social media to report on what is happening.

We will support competent councillors and expose the corrupt ones the same we have exposed corrupt ZANUPF political elites without fear or exception.

I personally wish you well on your new term and hope that you deliver on your promises.

Where you fail, let us see how you have failed, let us see how you were stopped from implementing your great ideas!
