Last night around 12:55 AM @simdotai crossed 30k GitHub stars.

Honestly, this moment feels pretty surreal.

When I moved to San Francisco in Summer '24 it felt like the most important AI applications were copilots, where humans and LLMs worked together to incrementally solve a problem.

Agents–especially background agents–weren't ready to solve real work. Teams using AI (rightfully so) couldn't confidently hand over regular workflows to agents.

A few months later (Jan '25), I started using agents to autonomously write code.

I thought to myself that agent systems would surely extend beyond coding to handle non-programming tasks.

That's when I told @typingwala we should start an open-source project for teams to build agents in cloud workspaces.

We started Sim purely for ourselves to automate away work that teams used to hire for.

When we first started, Waleed asked me what our goal was and I said if we get to 10 GitHub stars I'd be happy.

The rest is history.
