Daniela Martinelli from Columbia studied the effects of iron on the growth of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis from zoo outbreaks and found that the bacterium evolved to possibly decrease virulence over the course of one outbreak. Thanks to the University of Surrey for their role!

In the early hours of July 16th, a pod of 55 long-finned pilot whales came ashore at Tolsta Beach on the Isle of Lewis. This short film shows a glimpse into some of the work undertaken by SMASS and colleagues following this mass stranding event.
