UPDATE: The High Court in Masaka has adjourned the hearing of the Mawogola South County election petition, in which @NUP_Ug candidate Goreth Namugga is challenging the election of Dez Byuma. The case, presided over by Justice Thomas Ochaya, was adjourned after the respondent’s legal team informed the court that a handwriting expert engaged to examine and verify some of the documents intended to be relied upon in the case had not yet completed the exercise. The petition will return to court for hearing on October 19.

As Parliament resumes plenary tomorrow after three weeks of recess, we reiterate our call for security agencies to uphold the rule of law and stop the ongoing abductions. The recent abductions of BABA TV journalist Eria Jengo and Praise Aloikin, in addition to other persons like Sam Mugumya, Christopher Godi (King Zare), and others who remain unaccounted for, are not acceptable. The law must always be upheld even when apprehending people.

A police handwriting expert has testified in the election petition challenging the victory of Ruth Katushabe as the winner for Bukomansimbi District woman Member of Parliament.

The handwriting expert, who is one of the petitioner's witnesses, told the court that Veronica Nanyondo's agents’ signatures were forged.

The court was presided over by Lady Justice Rosette Comfort Kania, who adjourned the matter to November 5, when a ruling will be delivered.

According to results by the Electoral Commission, Katushabe polled 23,481 votes against Nanyondo’s 23,275.
