Physicist working in neuroscience, from imaging to data science and ML/AI | Especially interested in the role of sleep in neurodegeneration | Loves aquaporins.
Published today: Our paper on synergistic effects of AQP4 SNPs on brain amyloid burden. Assessed using #explainableAI in #ADNI data, evaluated in data from the A4/LEARN study screening. #Glymphatic system #Alzheimers

@jonykipnis Maybe too many applicants who submit proposals which do not match the call, to get a proposal evaluation for free before they submit to the next matching call. That’s why in EU‘s Horizon 2020 they stopped temporarily to give feedback to the applicants.
Lifestyle is a stronger predictor of aging and mortality than genetics.
A new Nature study of ~500,000 people found:
🎯 17% of mortality variation was linked to lifestyle (exposome).
🧬 <2% of was explained by genetics.

We are at a pivotal moment for higher ed. We must reaffirm where we stand, what we stand for, and the value we bring to the world. Today, @chronicle published an op-ed I co-authored with @VU_Chancellor. Let’s remain focused on what matters most. https://t.co/lsmCF9xvM9
Delighted to have contributed sleep data and expertise to this paper from #AIBL exploring the relationship between melanopsin gene variants, sleep, and markers of brain health

An impressive new issue of @NeuroCellPress on the science of brain aging with 10 papers on everything from sex differences, role of astrocytes, immune system, waste clearance, autophagy, DNA damage, and rejuvenation https://t.co/XCVniqj592
Out today in @CellCellPress !
We show that oscillations in norepinephrine and cerebral blood volume are the missing pieces that link NREM sleep to clearance of waste from the brain 🧠💤 https://t.co/cvfmkxNzJt
Very cool write up on a recent amazing paper from @NedergaardLab in @CellCellPress || Scientists uncover how the brain washes itself during sleep | Science | AAAS https://t.co/q0FoSlwvWp
Excited to have this work finally out… it addresses many controversies in the field and the take home message - if you are imaging your mouse keeping it in a particular head position, make sure to emphasize that because your data will be different from mouse images with another head position.
