@albertheijn@MoWoRos@1972Mira Yeah DMs are turned off so we can't contact you directly. I'm locked out of my order still. Honestly I just want to cancel now this is been really frustrating
@drsacheverell The closure of history departments and decline of available positions in the UK itself (where history still enjoys fairly robust enrollment rates as a general subject) is also indicative, unfortunately, of how dire the situation truly is.
@Brodie_Waddell@RoyalHistSoc@history_uk@ihr_history We really need to start doing a way better job at preparing history postgrads for alt-ac tracks. Gone too are the days where a history degree meant working in archives and museums (there are whole degrees for that now). Supervisors can't help because they don't know.
@onslies Just come back to the Low Countries, Liesbeth, we have beams on a budget everywhere ๐ I'm only smacked my now below-average-height (Damn Dutchies and their dairy fuelled giant bones) on the beams in our flat a couple of times...
@baileymeyers Albeit...literally didn't know I had been pronouncing it completely wrong until I watched an episode of the Office last year that used it...I'm 32 with a PhD and have definitely used the word at academic conferences๐คฆโโ๏ธ
@cjcornthwaite@mjczies The courage aspect is REAL. I know I fall into that (unfortunate) gender stereotype where I play things rather conservative re: my qualifications and hate cover letters/cvs etc because tooting my own horn feels wrong (and hard? outside of 'hey I'm really smart' academia).
@cjcornthwaite I just finished Doctoring - you put so much of what I needed to hear and have felt in words. Lots of post-PhD lit/support is STEMy, so it was so nice to hear from a fellow Hum. PhD (and Canuck! ๐จ๐ฆ๐ค). Thank you for healing my soul a little. Recommending it to all!
@blackwellbooks is it possible to return an online order (dispatched in the UK) in store? I'd requested a cancellation before dispatch but it wasn't actioned until after so now it's shown up and I need to return it but shipping it back is going to cost more than delivery did.
@Seb_Falk For me it was trying to change my booster date (i booked in early yesterday for early Jan) to see if I could get one before heading to GER for Xmas. Only pre-xmas availability is Saffron Walden b/c no booster walk-ins now in Cambs ๐
@shimself@acambridgediary@Peterhouse_Cam In his commitment to procedure yes - 1 of my fave stories was i was at PH was when he was chatting with an MPhil stdnt who was a Lt. Col from Australia in the rain and the student said 'nice army weather' jokingly. MM closed his umbrella b/c a man of higher rank was getting wet.
@acambridgediary@Peterhouse_Cam Mr Meade (I wouldn't dare call him Gerald) was such a personality so intrinsic to my experience of Peterhouse. His charming, teasing presence and his commitment to decorum were little quirks I'll always associate with the idiosyncracy that makes PH so special and well-loved.

The Tories seem to be only interested in a global Britain that existed 120 years ago, not the contemporary one where we have responsibility for the consequences of empire and industrialisation. If you want to 'level up', yes support local economies...but lose the insularity.
