I've seen a few restaurants opening in Toronto advertising themselves using carelessly generated posters with AI.
They have that deadly combo of tells: imagery sourced from the uncanny valley, poorly rendered soft text with a certain “typeface”, and typos that shouldn't be there if someone actually reviewed the output. And because I do data science and have mild design chops, I’m very aware when someone’s being sloppy.
Is it just me, or would I avoid these places thinking that the lack of care here might extend to the kitchen?
Finally made it out to a Toronto Tech Week event yesterday. Going to have to block time for this next year. Biotech was really underrepresented…an opportunity for next year?
(Missed out on the @cohere socks – also hi, we’re very literally across the street from you!)
More hay needs to be made about this. Every time I return to K-W, I see trains moving *reliably*. This means they’re moving as fast as they can given the circumstances. It’s completely unacceptable that Toronto didn’t look an hour down the 401 for inspiration.
Transit Signal Priority on ion Light Rail, Region of Waterloo, Ontario (2019).
Trains use a horizontal (stop) or vertical (go) white aspect bar, instead of red or green.
The trains follow a wave and do not stop between stations.
Toronto planners, please come here!

@311Toronto Would it be possible to have painted markers on the road and lines for the EV charging spots on 17 & 19 Glendora (like 186 & 188 Carlton d/t, 2nd photo)? I often find gas vehicles illegally parked and it seems drivers may be unaware of the new signage.
@JenGommerman@CdnImmunol I remember Jim showing up to our Immunology softball games literally in sandals and destroying softballs like nobody's business. We're definitely all going to miss him.
@oaaguilar503@NK1_ligand I'm really sorry to hear about this Oscar, especially knowing how close you and Jim were when we are all at U of T. I'm totally heartbroken.
@albertoxmartin I'm totally stunned, sad, and sorry to hear about this Alberto. I fondly remember Jim through the joie de vivre he brought throughout my time in the DoI. A big loss for the DoI and the immunology community at large.
I went on a coding spree on my new 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro last night. Really felt like a hot knife slicing through butter - especially when I can just run with a train of thought uninterrupted.
@ericmjl Another big point is being able to define entry points (in https://t.co/0tajUh54Vf or setup.cfg). We use it where I work and it’s a major QoL upgrade!
