The government can’t just decide that something has legal force — it must be lawfully served.
Let’s break that down in plain language so it’s crystal clear 👇

⚖️ 1️⃣ Service in law means proof of delivery

Under the Postal Services Act 2000 and the Interpretation Act 1978, a notice is only “served” when:

it’s delivered to your proper address, or

handed to you in person, or

sent electronically with your explicit consent.

If they never gained your explicit consent to accept “digital service,” they cannot presume it.

So if government departments, HMRC, or Home Office try to switch you to a digital identity or communication system (for example, a https://t.co/UndQeOVZL9 “One Login” or digital certificate) without you formally agreeing, you are not legally bound by it.

🪶 2️⃣ Digital systems still sit under postal law

Even where departments rely on the Electronic Communications Act 2000, they must:

inform you in writing that future communication will be digital,

obtain your consent, and

ensure there’s a verifiable record of receipt (digital signature, confirmation, or logged acceptance).

That Act does not override the Universal Postal Union conventions or domestic service rules — postal service remains the highest evidential standard in the UK for legal notices.

🛑 3️⃣ Digital ID ≠ Legal Identity

A digital ID (like the one https://t.co/UndQeOVZL9 is pushing) is an administrative tool, not a lawful replacement for natural or sovereign identity.
It can’t supersede your living status or property rights unless you voluntarily enrol and authenticate yourself.
So, yes — if they ever try to “serve” or impose a digital identity upon you, you can rightly insist:

“Until I am lawfully served, and I have freely consented, you have no authority to assign or compel a digital identity in my name.”

💬 4️⃣ What to say if challenged

If an agency insists on “digital-only service” or a “digital ID” requirement, your lawful response is:

“I require all notices to be served by post under the Postal Services Act 2000.
I do not consent to digital service. Please confirm that you have recorded my preference.”

That keeps you within the law and out of their automated trap.
