This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: https://t.co/aMMHId49OO
Now imagine you're an apple, a pear, a plum, a strawberry, an orange, a cake, an ice cream, a pickle, cheese, salami, a lollipop, a cherry pie, a sausage, a cupcake, a watermelon, or a green leaf.
Not so happy, is it
Trigger Warning: This post references a 400 year racial slur that has been used to dehumanize Black people. It also discusses Tourette syndrome and Coprolalia. If a social media post can provide this clarity, a global broadcaster on a 2 hour programming delay certainly could have. CC:BAFTA and BBC.
To be Black is to know that Grace will be demanded of you before accountability ever is.
And that’s exactly what played out on the BAFTA stage.
@GryphiusEitel@AmudalatAjasa@washingtonpost The middle school comebacks are so boring 🥱 Perhaps that’s where you ended off in school? Maybe you were the child left behind? Let’s try something more intelligent and based in logic next time!
@morrfeeus@AmudalatAjasa@washingtonpost Right because it would be such a better look to tell them you have a bot adjacent twitter account that you spend your entire life on. No wife. No kids. Congratulations to you!
@LordCampV @AmudalatAjasa@washingtonpost Immediately assuming you are also unemployed by your sheer obsession to this app. No face. No name. You’re a loser!!!!! At least Amudalat is leaving with a handsome severance check. What do you get? The tiny dick award?
I was laid off from @washingtonpost yesterday—like most of the climate team. Working here was a dream & I’m honored to have started my career here. I’m eager to continue covering environmental policy and justice while holding power to account. Email me at [email protected]
