Megathrust earthquakes are among Earth’s most destructive hazards. Oryan et al. developed the Coupling Cloud, which unifies and standardizes megathrust coupling models into one community-driven platform for easy visualization, comparison, and access.
#InSAR analysis for M8.8-2025 #Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia Earthquake
We retrieved the coseismic deformation from the 2025 M8.8 event using #Sentinel1 InSAR, revealing a maximum ~1 m line-of-sight displacement in the southern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
The June 2025 update for the reconstruction in La Palma for @GeoTenerife's #VolcanoStories project is up and available to read here: https://t.co/mWlPZTpQpl 🌋🇮🇨
Here's a quick update of the main stories from this month

Earth's surface is always moving – and NISAR will soon track even the tiniest shifts.
Set to launch soon, the satellite will use advanced radar tech to track changes in Earth’s surface, helping us better understand everything from ice loss to natural hazards. Learn more ⬇️
Holy shit! This is incredible footage of surface rupture forming on the Sagaing Fault during the #MyanmarEarthquake in Thazi. It's the first time such a phenomenon has been captured!
The first images from the @CopernicusEU#Sentinel1 C satellite are here!

Fun fact: Brussels was the subject of the first radar image captured by Sentinel-1A in April 2014.
Excited to see our work on the 2024 Noto EQ led by @liuwei_xu, Ji Chen, and @LingsenMeng featured on the cover of @ScienceMagazine! Combining seismic & geodetic data, we found complex ruptures in the initial stage of this New Year's EQ that led to violent shaking
Is there any evidence of Slow Slip Events in the southern Peru-northern Chile subduction zone?
Yes, (@cokejaragomez)Jara et al. find tiny events hidden in the geodetic noise. Read more to see how they detected and characterized them:

A M7.0 earthquake struck the China-Kyrgyzstan border just after midnight, in bitter cold. With severe shaking, this event is likely serious.
The quake likely occurred on the South Tien Shan fault, which in the past has produced M8+ events.

With @DocTerremoto and @AndresTassara, using numerical simulations of earthquake cycle, we investigate the feasibility and behaviour of Velocity Weakening barriers.
Last week it was MAST’s first annual meeting! 🌋🛰️
We welcomed researchers from @UoBEarthScience, @bristolcs, as well as Catherine Annen from @CzechAcademy and Sylvain Barbot from @USC, to discuss science, collaborations and progress!
