The Ministry of Health, through the Division of Mental Health, in partnership with stakeholders, convened the 4th Technical Working Group workshop from 28th April to 2nd May 2025 in Nairobi. Unpopular Opinion.
We should do away with an MO position and make it a bridge to specialization by expanding collegiate system/MMED to accommodate all MO interns.
Upon finishing internship, an MO intern gets matched to specialization eg. COSECSA, ECSACOP, CANECSA, ECSACOG, ECSACO, COPECSA, COECSA or MMED programmes, they continue serving on MoH payroll offering medical & surgical services at the county hospitals approved by KMPDC for the entire duration of specialization.
MoH through KHHRAC undertakes to post qualified specialists at the end of the programme to counties based on their specialist needs and WHO recommended Specialist: Population ratios.
