@Keir_Starmer What would be nice if you had the decency to actually answer a question. You just reply with sound bites on a narrative you want to spin.
Sir Keir Starmer tells Sky’s @BethRigby that Labour "kept to its manifesto" promises despite raising taxes in the budget - as he asked "everybody to contribute"
He absolutely nails it. He encapsulates the mood of most people in the UK. 🎯
“We end up with economically illiterate people in the government. There are not fit for office. This is our money. And I’m sick of being asked to pay more and more for less and less.”
'Did you enhance your CV to make yourself look better qualified to be the Chancellor of the Exchequer if you won the election?'
Richard questions the Chancellor about her CV.
@BBCPolitics I find it disgraceful that a politician will go on a program like this and answer perfectly sensible and reasonable questions. I used to think the Tories were slippery at this sort of thing. Labour are next level. Please keep trying your best @bbclaurak it’s important work you do
This is painful to watch. Robotic Rachel Reeves is rightly called out for lying to the public before the election, breaking manifesto promises, and her fictional '£22bn black hole'.
She's rattled and completely out of her depth.
This is an absolute car crash.
Fiona Bruce, "Do you see much growth in the budget?"
Tom Hunter, "No.. There is no economy in the world that has taxed it's way to economic growth"
"Just one example.. A friend has a business.. 30 retail units.. Turning over £40 million.. But lowering the NI will cost them £500,000 and the new living wage will cost them £800,00"
"So that's £1.3m out of his profits"
"So he says three of his units are now not profitable, so he may need to close them"
"So he will pay off 90 people"
"Let's assume half of them will find a job somewhere else.. That's 45 people not paying tax, not paying NI, now on benefits.. That's not growth"
"We want Labour to succeed, but there's nothing to encourage people with this budget"
Here's the moment @RachelReevesMP first learned of the negative market reaction to her Budget - when my colleague @BethRigby pushed her on it👇
(Gilt yields were already up from 4.2% to 4.4% at the time of the interview)
