I can’t shake the feeling: America toppling Iran has been on the Likudnik/neocon agenda for decades and, to the horror of its advocates, they haven’t been able to get the plan across the finish line. The trauma of the neocon quagmire in Iraq is too vivid, and too recent. ‘Iraq Syndrome’ has replaced “Vietnam Syndrome”.

But as the trauma of our disastrous (post 9/11, neocon induced) adventure in Iraq fades into history, and some combination of organic and induced unrest brews amongst Iran’s citizens, Iran is back on the table! This time, we won’t be allowed to refuse.

Yes the Iranian regime is terrible and dangerous to the world. Yes the Iranian people deserve better. But we ended up with this regressive, theocratic nightmare in Iran BECAUSE of Western meddling. It is a response to our naive attempt to hard code a friendly, subservient state where a proud civilization once stood.

The neocon fever dreams won’t work. They never do. The plan is about interests that are not American. It will weaken us, and we are already at the breaking point.
