21 Days to a #Mindful You [Day 11]
π§ββοΈNotice your moods and emotions.
There is an old story where a student goes to a wise master, and pleads with him - "Master, I am so unhappy, give me a solution. "
The wise man says - "You are not unhappy. You are experiencing unhappy emotions and identifying with them. Just sit in meditation and observe them."
The student does as he is told. And pretty soon, the thoughts of unhappiness fade away, as all thoughts do.
He returns and exclaims, "Master - Thank you, I am so happy now."
The Master smiles and replies, "You are not happy. You are experiencing happy emotions."
----------------------------------------
Our tendency to get identified with whatever we are feeling is the root cause of feeling miserable most of the time.
Today, as you practice - try to observe your emotions. Articulate and see them as yet another chain of thoughts.
Check if you are identifying with them. And if you are, try to take a step back into observing them.
Do they feel as powerful as they did a moment ago?
21 Days to a #Mindful You [Day 10]
Today, let's come back to the breath. But, with more Awareness.
In your usual position, close your eyes and start observing your inhale and exhale.
Pay careful attention to these three points:
1. Are you observing the breath, the moment it happens or are you waiting for it.
The feeling of waiting is just another thought, view it as such and Try to be as instantaneous in your observation as possible
2. While you are focusing on the breath, is your mind still wandering off to other thoughts.
Don't suppress them. Without dropping the anchor of breath, observe the thoughts as they float in and out.
3. Check the relation between the observer and the observed.
Where are you observing from? Remember the self-inquiry pointers from yesterday.
