One of the earliest examples of computer animated data visualization, the 1968 film is based on data from a 1966 thunderstorm — transmitted from sensor array (over telephone lines), then reinterpreted by Bell Labs' IBM 7090 & SC-4020 into 10x11 pixel representations.
On this day, 36 years ago, Luciano Pavarotti had his concert in Rome the night before the Italia '90 World Cup Final ⚽️ 🇮🇹 At the same time a ragtag team of the most innovative skateboarders from the newly formed "Blind" team were doing their first tour across Europe: Jason Lee, Danny Way & the Gonz. What a summer that was!
FARNSWORTH HOUSE • Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe between 1945 and 1951, the Farnsworth #House near Chicago is considered one of the purest expressions of modern architecture. Raised above the ground and enclosed almost entirely in glass, it embodies Mies’ vision of openness, simplicity and structural clarity.
Reduced to its essential elements, the house dissolves the boundary between #architecture and #nature. Today, the Farnsworth House remains one of the most influential icons of twentieth-century #modernism.
Rauchenberg's 1963 'Retroactive I' was an attempt to understand how we consume and absorb images in an increasingly crowded media. It flattened the imagery of a political leader and everyday objects to give them equal meaning.
@bis__cut does something similar in his collage work but with an updated zeitgeist. Instead of mainstream news or everyday objects, the subject matter is deep internet detritis, that feel very obscure and hyper specific. In this particular piece the lightening seems to suggest an overheating. Like online consumption has reached some sort of breaking point.
Rauchenberg was pointing towards something we take for granted now. The way images are flattened within mass media. Whilst I'm not attempting a direct hyperbolic comparison, Biscuit is extending that particular gesture further. The layering of obscure Chinese playing card, NPC memes, alien conspiracy pics, obscure unreferenced text, all dredged from within the internet's depths. It pushes collage into a more disorientating state, maybe reflecting the current state of consciousness that we find ourselves in.
Back in the 60s a photo of Kennedy signalled hope, or sadness after his assasination. In our modern age with political fatigue I'm not sure it means much beyond its memetic power. Its presence only or equally as powerful as a NPC meme.
Just finished this illustration!!! took quite a long time but so happy with how it came out. A new piece to my "California" series...

Love seeing @d347h_eth continue to build out tooling helping collectors explore the Terraforms work.
This link is a great summary of the custom glyphs contained in Origin Mode, X-seed, and Y-seed parcels.
