Science #Immunology's December issue is out!
This month's cover spotlights how worm-like #parasites called #helminths suppress immune responses and facilitate chronic infections in mice. Read this research and more: https://t.co/jpbopqCZho
Decoding Worm Strategies to Advance Vaccines and Therapies 🧬

A study led by Prof. Julia Esser-von Bieren and Dr. Sina Bohnacker, #HelmholtzMunich, @TU_Muenchen, and @unil, reveals how worm parasites (#helminths) evade immune defenses by manipulating #macrophages using a protein called #heGDH.
💡This discovery paves the way for innovative vaccines and therapies targeting infectious diseases, allergies, and asthma.
🌍 With 24% of the global population affected by helminths, this research could address major infectious and immune-related challenges worldwide.
💬 “Our findings could lead to transformative treatments for infectious diseases and inflammatory conditions like asthma.” - Prof. Esser-von Bieren
🌟The study, published in @SciImmunology, even earned a coveted spot on the cover!
🎉 Additionally, Dr. Sina Bohnacker was recently awarded the HELENA Doctoral Researchers Award by @Health_talents for her doctoral thesis on this subject. Congratulations!

I was honored to give a talk at the parasitic helminths: new perspectives in infection and biology conference. What a nice week so far with incredibly good presentations. Especially the ride with boat to the tavern was one highlight. 🚤🍷🍇🌄
I was very happy to share our research on how helminths can modulate the eicosanoid metabolism. Thanks a lot for selecting me as a speaker during the young investigator session. It was a pleasure to join the @EuroLipid conference this week in stockholm @karolinskainst 🎉.
