Trabzonspor. It doesn’t matter now, but in my opinion this was not a red card. We’ve just seen an identical one in England not given a couple of weeks ago (Arsenal vs City).

A list of what the referee and VAR look for when considering a red card:

✅Hight of the contact
✅Buckle of the ankle
✅Speed at which a player goes into the challenge
✅Challenge made with a straight leg
✅Leads with studs showing
❌ Intent of action does NOT matter

So, looking at Ruslan’s foul:
- The height criteria is not fully met here (just above the ankle)
- The speed is not enough (no lunging)
- Ankle buckle, but usually comes with a low contact point (I don’t see excessive force)
- Does lead with a straight leg, but within the context is expected

So, in my opinion a yellow card would’ve been a fair decision by the referee and VAR will not see a “clear and obvious error” to intervene here as this is subjective.
