The most important sentence in Trump's ceasefire post is that the ensuing negotiations will be based on the Iranian 10-point proposal (and not Trump's 15 points).

These are the Key Aspects of Iran's Proposal:
-Permanent End to Hostilities: A lasting peace agreement rather than a temporary ceasefire.
-Security Guarantees: Assurances that Iran will not be attacked again.
-Lifting Sanctions: Complete removal of all US sanctions imposed on Iran.
-Strait of Hormuz Reopening: Iran would reopen the vital energy route but charge a $2 million fee per vessel, to be split with Oman.
-Regional Security: End to Israeli strikes in Lebanon and other regional attacks.
-Reconstruction Funding: Revenue from the Strait to be used for rebuilding infrastructure rather than direct reparations

Trump tells Fox News that the US "sent a lot of guns to the Iranian protesters, we sent guns through the Kurds, I think the Kurds kept them."

Trump reportedly said the weapons were sent after the Iranian gov started killing protesters in large numbers. Not sure that makes a lot of sense since the Internet was completely shut down at the time, and the US had very limited insight into what was happening.

I suspect he misspoke: The weapons were sent through Kurdish groups BEFORE the January 8-9 clampdown.

Either way, this admission by Trump rewrites the history of these dark days.

My suspicion is that the US and Israel had armed specific groups that infiltrated Iran but could not operate until large protests had erupted. When that happened - both organically and with the encouragement of Reza Pahlavi - these groups were activated and began using systematic violence against the state apparatus as well as civilian targets (banks, mosques etc).

The vast majority of Iranian protesters had nothing to do with or even awareness of this US/Israeli armed group. They were protesting peacefully. But the Iranian government appears to have made little distinction between the two and killed armed and peaceful protesters alike on a large scale - probably around 7,000.

A lot of people in the anti-war majority part of the Iranian diaspora are closely monitoring whether Iranian monarchists who supported the war are waking up from their delusion that Israel would bomb Iran into liberation.

Given the clear objective of destroying Iran as a state for decades to come, many are hoping that Iranian Monarchists will realize their mistake and turn against the war.

Those hopes may need to be tempered. The Mujahedin-e Khalq terror organization went from being a relatively popular anti-Shah opposition group to being detested after siding with Saddam Hussein's invasion of Iran in 1980.

But their failing bet on Saddam did not prompt them to reassess, regret, or apologize for their treason.

Instead, every time they failed, their reaction was to dig deeper and double down on their radical dependence on a foreign power, eventually turning themselves into nothing more than a tool of Iran's geopolitical rivals.

I fear the Monarchists may go down the same path.

Instead of recognizing the pure idiocy of pushing for their ancestral home to be bombed while they were dancing on the streets of LA and London, they will blame everyone else but themselves.

Trump bombed too little, they'll argue. Or perhaps he bombed too much. Israel and the US didn't invade - landtroops were needed, but they simply didn't have it in them. Or perhaps they failed because they didn't arm Kurdish or other ethnic militias. Some of them have argued that weapons should have been sent to Iranian women inside Iran, for them to take up an armed struggle (!!) Perhaps they will even have the audacity to blame the Iranian people for not having revolted during the bombardment.

I fear they will blame everyone but themselves while managing their cognitive dissonance by adopting increasingly radical postures.

Anything to protect themselves from the painful truth that they have betrayed two peoples: The blood of thousands of people in Iran is on their hands for having pushed for this disastrous war. And they have also betrayed the US by treating US servicemen and women as their personal mercenaries to be deployed to settle their personal scores.
