Today, I presided over the handover of community development projects by Sino Minerals Investments Co. Ltd in Buhara Sub-county, Kabale District, including a new Sub-county headquarters, eight staff quarters, four motorcycles and computers to support service delivery. The company also increased its monthly support to community elders from UGX 10,000 to UGX 15,000.
The company began exploration activities in 2012 and, following H.E. the President’s 2014 directive against the export of raw minerals, opted to pursue local value addition.
With approximately 32 million tonnes of iron ore at the site, the company is also working with Terra Industries Ltd in Ntungamo to process 1.8 million tonnes of iron ore tailings into pig iron, strengthening Uganda’s mineral beneficiation efforts.
I called upon local leaders to support investors and recognise their contribution to community development, job creation and industrial growth. Where disagreements arise, leaders and investors should engage constructively and seek practical solutions rather than undermine investment efforts.
Beyond the infrastructure and equipment handed over today, the company pledged to provide an additional four motorcycles and a double-cabin vehicle to support the Sub-county’s operations, among other planned interventions.
The company also supported a free medical camp at Buhara Health Centre III, which I officially closed today.
I assured the community of continued Government support and encouraged residents to increase local production and supply the company, its workers and other businesses with locally produced goods, including Irish potatoes and other agricultural products.
This will help create reliable markets for local farmers while ensuring that investment benefits the wider community.
We believe that responsible mining goes hand in hand with community development.
From road maintenance and scholarships to clean water, healthcare, elderly support, environmental conservation and local employment, we are investing in a better future for Buhara, Kabale.

The district set aside 15.5 acres of land in Kijoojo Village, the same village where the current, ageing sub-county offices sit, to pave the way for SINO Minerals to expand its iron ore crushing plant.
Work has officially kicked off on a new Shs1.2 billion headquarters for Buhara Sub-county in Ndorwa East County, Kabale District, in what local leaders are calling a major win for public service delivery in the area.
The facility is being financed and built entirely by SINO Minerals Investments Company Limited, the firm licensed to mine iron ore in the district. The project traces back to an MoU signed in October 2025 between the company and Kabale District Local Government.
Earlier today, I toured Terra Industrial Development Company in Ntungamo together with the company's Managing Director, Mr. Kong Dong Sheng, and his management team to appreciate the progress at Uganda's first pig iron processing plant.
This investment is a major milestone in Uganda's industrialization agenda, demonstrating the importance of mineral beneficiation, local value addition, job creation, and the promotion of local content in building a resilient manufacturing sector.
I commend Terra Industrial Development Company for its contribution to strengthening Uganda's value-added economy.
The result: an engaged group of students who left with real insight into how iron ore mining actually works, not just what they’d read in a textbook.
This is part of how we show up for the communities around us.

They wanted to understand how the mine affects local livelihoods, and what challenges the enterprise faces.
Our team answered every single one, walking students through mining operations, environmental protection systems, and our green mine construction efforts.
