I have closely followed Grace Muliisa’s leadership at Ecobank Uganda as a first-time Managing Director, and I must say — the transformation of the bank over the last four years has been remarkable to watch.
When she joined Ecobank Uganda in September 2021, the bank had assets of UGX 493.8Bn and deposits of UGX 377.3Bn.
Fast forward to 2025:
📌 Assets have grown 2.57x to UGX 1.27 trillion
📌Deposits have risen 2.5x to UGX 943.6Bn
📌Total income has doubled from UGX 49.7Bn to UGX 100.8Bn
📌The bank has moved from an UGX 11Bn loss to a UGX 24.3Bn profit
That translates into a 26.7% CAGR in assets growth and a 25.8% CAGR in deposit growth over just four years.
Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with her for a deep and candid conversation about the turnaround story behind these numbers.
What stood out for me was the clarity of leadership, discipline of execution, and intentionality with which she and her team approached the market.
I hope you take time to watch it.

This week, the Training, Equipping and Nurturing to Thrive (TENT) Initiative reached Rubuguri, Kisoro, bringing together miners, local leaders, and key stakeholders in a shared effort to formalize and strengthen Uganda’s Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) sector.
The engagement opened with remarks from LC1 Chairman Mr. Bakina Syprian, who welcomed the initiative and encouraged miners to embrace cooperative development as a pathway to growth and sustainability.
Regional Mines Inspector Michael Malinga introduced TENT as a Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development initiative aimed at formalizing and professionalizing the ASM sector, highlighting the opportunities available under Uganda’s new mining law.
The week also featured discussions on strengthening cooperative structures for iron ore miners in Nyanamo, while representatives from Pearl Bank demonstrated how miners can access digital financial services through the WENDI platform.
Together, we are building stronger cooperatives, improving financial inclusion, and creating a more sustainable future for Uganda’s mining sector.
