Will Europe Save Hamas in Gaza? I recently met with a high-ranking European official from a country deeply involved in the Israel and Palestine file to discuss Gaza’s future and immediate options for relieving civilians trapped under Hamas’s grip. I presented a simple proposal: create safe zones across the "Yellow Line" into the Israel‑controlled green zone and support new, organized, secure, Hamas‑free communities where Gazans could finally begin rebuilding their lives. Whether the issue is humane living conditions, deradicalization, education, healthcare, or shielding civilians from both Hamas or Israeli strikes, the green zone is the only place where meaningful action is possible. Instead of engaging, the official launched into a long monologue about their country’s contributions to the Palestinian Authority, UNRWA, and other institutions, all while insisting on their own “humility” as a faraway European nation.

Then came the truly alarming part: a casual normalization of Hamas. The official proudly described how easy it had been to work with Hamas before October 7, praising the group for providing “excellent security” and being “easier to work with than others.” What they called pragmatism was, in reality, a twenty‑year pattern of enabling a violent terrorist organization responsible for immense civilian suffering.

When I explained that any Hamas‑free zones would require vetting at the Yellow Line to prevent weapons or operatives from entering, the official reacted with shock. “This vetting would violate international law,” they repeated, insisting that their country could not fund projects with any checks on who enters. I noted the absurdity: I had undergone extensive vetting just to enter their country, and even this building, yet they believed Hamas fighters should be able to walk into new civilian safe zones unimpeded. Their only response was vague appeals to “international law,” which, in their interpretation, seems to require allowing terrorists to hide among civilians.

The meeting ended on an even more surreal note. When the official asked what would happen to Hamas fighters left in the red zone, I said I didn’t care; they could fight the Israeli military on their own all they wanted once they no longer held two million civilians hostage. The official lamented that “this isn’t the old American West” and expressed concern for what would happen to Hamas without human shields. Disgust doesn’t begin to describe my feelings and reactions.

I left convinced of something long suspected: Hamas’s twenty‑year rule was sustained not only by its own brutality but by an ecosystem of NGOs, donor nations, Western European governments, journalists, academics, activists, lawyers, and even self‑styled human‑rights defenders who normalized Hamas, treated it as a legitimate authority, or tolerated its abuses because their hostility toward Israel outweighed their concern for Gazans.

Sir, – Micheál Martin’s hysterical over-reaction to the Israeli detention of Irish citizens participating in the Sumud flotilla embarrasses Ireland on the international stage yet again. These people were not innocent holidaymakers suddenly snatched at sea, but political provocateurs who desperately sought arrest and detention by Israeli forces. This event should be treated as the publicity stunt that it was.
The real injured parties here are the ordinary Israeli and Irish taxpayers who have to pay for the arrest and repatriation of these middle-class narcissists. The best way for this Government to stop the genuinely shocking humiliation and mistreatment of Irish citizens would be to focus on the homelessness crisis in Ireland, or the ever-growing hospital waiting list, and ignore the self-indulgent gimmicks of the anti-Israeli lobby. – Yours, etc,

In 1977, the head of the PLO's military department gave an interview to a Dutch newspaper and said something that should have changed everything.

He said Palestinian identity is emphasized for political reasons only. That a separate Palestinian identity exists for tactical reasons. That there are no real differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese.

His name was Zuher Mohsin. He wasn't a dissident. He wasn't breaking ranks. He was one of the architects of the movement and he said the quiet part out loud.

Eight years earlier, Golda Meir had said the same thing and been destroyed for it.

But that's not even the beginning of the story.

The PLO was founded in 1964. Three years before Israel controlled the West Bank or Gaza. Whatever it was built to liberate, it wasn't land Israel acquired in 1967.

Before Arafat, there was no Palestinian national identity. Not because the people weren't real. Because the identity hadn't been built yet. And Arafat built it the same way you build a city — founding story first, then institutions, symbols, a flag, a claim of ancient dispossession, and enough foreign funding to make it stick.

Germany's foreign ministry made a misleading post (details below) to mask the fact it allowed the nomination of the Islamic Republic of Iran to a UN committee that addresses critical issues including women’s rights and terrorism prevention — failing to object as the US did, and as EU states have done in the past.

The fact is that Germany, as a member of the 54-nation UN Economic and Social Council, participated in the consensus nomination of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN Committee for Programme and Coordination on April 8, 2026.

This committee deals with budget priorities and program coordination on critical issues, and will meet soon to address women’s rights, human rights, and terrorism prevention.

At a minimum, Germany should have taken the floor to object that it is wrong to nominate a regime that only months ago massacred thousands of protesters, and that brutally oppresses women, tortures political prisoners, and systematically violates basic human rights.

This is exactly what the United States did in that meeting. It was the only country that formally objected and disassociated itself from the consensus decision, citing Iran’s appalling record on women’s rights.

Germany and other Western democracies, however, remained silent and allowed the consensus to pass in ECOSOC, a body of which Germany is a member.

Notably, in a similar scenario in April 2022, the EU and several other democracies took the floor to object to the election of a Russian candidate, months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Speaking on behalf of Germany and all other EU member states, France took the floor to object and disassociate the EU states from the decision. This precedent from 2022 confirms that Germany clearly had the option to object to the nomination of Iran’s regime, but it made the decision not to do so.

Germany’s Reply is Misleading

The German foreign ministry’s recent reply to criticism of its actions is misleading.

@AuswaertigesAmt posted: “The election of the members of this UN committee will only take place in November at the UN General Assembly. This refers to the nomination of candidates by the Asia-Pacific regional group, which was accepted by acclamation. An election of Iran by  did not take place.”  (Translation.)

The truth:

•  It is false and misleading to claim that the “nomination” of Iran was done by the Asia-Pacific regional group. Although it is the regional groups that first propose candidates, the UN procedure is very clear that the formal “nomination” is effected by the members of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It is a fact that the nomination of Iran was done by Germany and the other members, in a consensus decision. Saying or suggesting otherwise is false and misleading.

• Saying that the “nomination” of Iran “was accepted by acclamation” is wrong and misleading in two ways: first, there was no “nomination” for ECOSOC to “accept” because, as explained above, while the regional groups propose candidates, it is only Germany and the other ECOSOC members who have the power of “nomination”; second, the foreign ministry here uses passive language to imply that Iran’s name was merely “accepted” by some anoymous entity, in a disingenuous attempt to mask Germany’s active decision to participate in the consensus nomination of Iran.

• Saying that “an election of Iran by did not take place” is a straw-man argument, because UN Watch never claimed there was an “election.” Rather, what happened on April 8th — as UN Watch first exposed in this viral tweet — is that Germany and the others decided to nominate Iran, and then failed to take the floor to object -- as the US did in that meeting, and as the EU, UK, and Canada had done in a similar scenario in April 2022.

• The German foreign ministry is correct that “the election of the members of this UN committee will only take place in November at the UN General Assembly.” However, the decisive step in this process was the ECOSOC nomination of Iran, supported by Germany, on April 8th. Past practice shows that the formal election by the UN General Assembly in November 2026 will almost certainly rubber-stamp the nomination of Iran.

The Palestinian 'cause' has a long track record of using Irish people for their own gain...

Forty years ago today, a Palestinian terrorist was preparing to kill his Irish fiancée and their unborn child in order to murder hundreds of innocent Israelis and others on an airplane.

The Hindawi Affair remains one of the most chilling examples of human depravity in the history of terrorism. It was not only an attempt to destroy an aircraft; it was a cold-blooded act of ultimate betrayal. Nezar Hindawi, a Palestinian terrorist working with Syrian intelligence, groomed his Irish fiancée, Ann-Marie Murphy, into believing they were headed toward a life of marriage and family. In reality, he was sending her—and their six-month-old unborn child—to a mid-air execution

Forty years have passed since the morning of April 17, 1986, when a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions was narrowly averted at London's Heathrow Airport.

The target was El Al Flight 016, a Boeing 747 bound for Tel Aviv with 375 passengers on board. Among them was Ann-Marie Murphy.

As Ann-Marie approached the El Al check-in desk, she was the picture of an unsuspecting traveller. She had been coached by Hindawi to lie to security, claiming she was travelling alone for a holiday. However, her story didn't hold up under the rigorous questioning of El Al’s security team. When an agent emptied her bag, he noticed it remained unusually heavy.

Hidden beneath a false bottom was 1.5 kilograms of Semtex—a powerful plastic explosive—and a scientific calculator that Hindawi had given her as a "gift." The calculator was, in fact, a sophisticated detonator set to trigger the bomb two hours into the flight, while the plane would have been at 39,000 feet over Austria.

The discovery sent shockwaves through the international community. British authorities quickly arrested Hindawi, uncovering evidence that he had been trained and equipped by Syrian intelligence. The incident led the UK to sever diplomatic relations with Syria, a move backed by the United States and Canada.

For Ann-Marie Murphy, the revelation was a double trauma: the shock of a near-death experience and the soul-crushing realisation that the man she loved had intended to murder her and their unborn baby for the Palestinian cause.

In October 1986, she faced Hindawi in court. During her testimony, the soft-spoken woman finally snapped, shouting at him, "You bastard! I hate you! How could you do this to me?" Hindawi was sentenced to 45 years in prison, then the longest fixed sentence in British legal history.

Following the trial, Ann-Marie withdrew from the public eye. She returned to her native Ireland to raise her daughter, Sara. In rare interviews over the years, she described Sara as the "only good thing" to come from the relationship.

Today, the Hindawi Affair is a mandatory case study in aviation security training. Its lessons impact on us today every time we pass through airport security.
