i think the most chronically online positions i see here are related to outdoor cats. Because yes, there are some scenarios where a cat should not be outdoors. But like, it depends.

I was on NPR recently talking about higher ed and one thing I said and deeply believe is that 95% of college athletic programs have no reason to exist. They’re a huge money suck, yet we have been brainwashed into acting as if playing sports in college is a sacred human right.

@ellonico But interpreting regional poverty as a metric for how unlikable it is is a bit of a stretch. There’s some lovely places well worth the time. Ignoring the few major cities- Harpers Ferry WV, TN Tri-Cities, Bristol VA, Asheville NC- etc etc.

@ellonico you figured out the issue. The wealth generated in the region does not healthily get reinvested. Most families have generational poverty while extractive industry thrives. There aren’t many options for especially older folks to uplift themselves.

@patternscreamr2 the unfortunate part of being a young adult in the rural south or central Appalachia is the lack of opportunity. I’m sure many wouldn’t move out if it could be helped.

I feel like the younger generations have a problem putting things in their proper historical and political context. You can’t view 70s sexual awakening & LGBTQ+ movement through a 2020s lens. Everything that makes it “today’s problematic” makes it yesterday’s groundbreaking
