@suey2y I found myself in resus recently with two anaesthetists called to help manage my breathing in anaphylaxis. 2 consultants in addition to the team already there. They were so kind. Explained why they could help. Explained what was happening. Sat with me as I recovered. So grateful.
1.4 million people receive PIP for psychiatric disorders.
2 million are stuck on waiting lists for mental health treatment.
When good early care is missing, outcomes worsen, and disability rises.
We’re paying the price for neglecting mental health.
To @CrossCountryUK I’m not sure “liking” a tweet about a passenger nearly dying on a train and nobody helping is really appropriate. Seriously. I was incapacitated and nobody cared. What was I supposed to do?
Had an anaphylactic reaction on @CrossCountryUK tonight. Passengers sat with their headphones on, phones out, eyes down. I typed to my 8YO how they could help & tried to keep them calm. Nobody noticed. Nobody helped. It took a child to get me home & administer adrenaline….
The next time one of Starmer's Tory ministers like Liz Kendall demonizes people claiming benefits, can the interviewer point out that every MP can claim more benefits than non-MPs, benefits that pay for everything, including their rent, energy costs, council tax and meals.
According to the UK government, disabled people in the UK are not #disabed but "economically inactive", have a "work-limiting condition" or they are accused of fraud. @UNGeneva, rhetoric makes no difference to disability rights under #CRPD, please help ensure these are honoured.
Throwing down the gauntlet at @leicesterliz:
A benefits system exists to support basic human needs:
• Enough money to eat, heat, and sleep.
• Being treated with respect and dignity.
• Not being persecuted.
It's not too much to ask, is it?
I’ve just written something to be read at the memorial service of a dear close friend who, after Covid and then Shingles felt her mildish #ME worsening rapidly. Living alone, she couldn’t find the help she needed to live with dignity. She quietly took her own life.
Our reality😔
@ScribblerPen Some disabled people work, and have to fight for the adjustments to do so at the same time, ending up with no quality of life and even worse help thanks to discriminatory employers and poor management of reasonable adjustment, Access to Work, and the Equality Act 2010.
🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
3 billion pound cut to benefits will push Disabled people into poverty
The Government prioritising an alleged ‘economic stability’ over the lives of Disabled people
https://t.co/vASr1fBpUZ
How did we get to the point that disabled people are seen responsible for all what is wrong in the UK? Not 14 years of Tory austerity, not 2m people with long covid, not dilapidated public services, not brexit, not successive corrupt governments. How can people swallow this?
@Ryan_Daigler And then the abuser gets to make counter claims, or paint their victim as mad, and then supposed institutional support worries more about the victim struggling to cope than about the abuser having precipitated that, ie effectively sanctioning mh crises and other rubbish.
#Narcissistic abusers often torment their victims behind closed doors while presenting a charming and innocent facade in public. They strategically provoke their victims, subtly pushing them to the brink when others are present, causing the victim to react visibly. This calculated behavior aims to make the victim appear as if they are overreacting or unstable to those observing the situation.
#ReactiveAbuse
(Can’t go to A&E, no childcare. Have sorted myself out and am now stable. Unfortunately the cause is unknown and this is a new condition to me so it’s already my second reaction this year. I can manage them. But the coldhearted turning aside of people on the train upset me most).
If you have a platform, PLEASE be VERY careful with framing depression/other mental illness as an 'understandable' reaction to stress.
It makes the hearer think: 'If I can/have to cope with stress, why can't they?'
This political moment is INCREDIBLY delicate re mental illness.
When the local safe haven doesn’t answer the phone and charity lines are blocked solid, you know you’re collateral damage from political shenanigans by @labour Individual lives lost to extreme waiting lists and no value placed on ordinary people’s existence.
