Kenya has had a long and illustrious history of leading or taking part in peacekeeping operations. This role is widely acknowledged and appreciated.

This afternoon, I met with the UN Under-Secretary General for Peace Operations, Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix @Lacroix_UN and his team. We discussed many issues including ways of deepening cooperation between the UN and Kenya in peace operations in Africa and beyond. I thanked Mr. Lacroix for the support that Kenyan troops continue to receive in various countries of their deployment.

At the Second regular session of the @UNICEF Executive Board meeting on UNICEF’s Strategy for contributing to Africa’s development agendas, I expressed Kenya’s support for the Strategy and commended UNICEF for its steadfast support to African countries.

In order to achieve #SDGs for children in Africa, I called for a review of the Agency’s programming, funding and talent deployment strategies to produce the greatest impact and clear commitments and adequate resourcing for flagship programmes that will help in achieving SDGs for children.

Also encouraged UNICEF to intervene more in the areas of emergency, recovery, transition and fragility.

I gave the commitment of @KenyaMissionUN to continue working with UNICEF in promoting the welfare, protection and development of children in Africa.
