“Openly non-binary”, what a load of absolute pish.
Has there EVER been a single person who was “non-binary” who didn’t immediately tell everyone they met about it? Can you even BE “non-binary” if you don’t tell people? Isn’t telling people the only way to manifest it?
@worstall@fionaharvey Well, thanks to #theguardian's commitment to white guilt, she's certainly not going to blame me for emissions resulting from my driving.
The CEO and founder of the MOBO Awards, Kanya King, has died at the age of 57 following a battle with cancer.
Kanya founded the MOBO Awards in 1996 at the age of 27 after recognising that mainstream UK music awards often overlooked Black music genres and artists.
“Someone, somewhere, has taken the decision to defund astrophysics research in the UK, but no-one seems quite sure who that was, or why.”
The same story with every decision under Starmer's govt (except in the very rare cases when it works, then they all fight over credit).
This is indeed a superb letter from The Astronomer Royal of Scotland. “Someone, somewhere, has taken the decision to defund astrophysics research in the UK, but no-one seems quite sure who that was, or why.” I agree - my colleagues in particle physics have also tried, without success, to discover who owns the decision to damage physics research in the UK, perhaps irreparably, at a time when our economy desperately needs the skills and knowledge we develop and teach. @UKRI_News need to get a grip urgently and fix the problem someone, somewhere, has created.
I couldn't say it better than the Astronomer Royal of Scotland, in her letter to Nature.
"...whoever made this decision failed to foresee the disastrous and damaging repercussions for UK science and the economy."

@TSHamiltonAstro True fact!:
I used to want a room in my house when I grew up with beautiful units of drawers containing well-organised type.
The reality: I bought a British terrace :-D
That is amazing!!
A titan of the civil rights movement, Dr. Clarence B. Jones, has died at 95. Dr. Jones was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s attorney, advisor, and draft speechwriter. Made it my life’s mission to become the Taliban’s worst nightmare:
A highly educated Afghan woman.
First, Columbia University at the top of my class, and now Oxford University.
Give Afghan girls one chance and see what they can achieve.
"Equality is not conditional. Dignity at work is not negotiable."
Unless you are a woman.
An actual woman.
Then the UCU puts the demands (not rights) of certain men first.
Equality is not conditional. Dignity at work is not negotiable.
The EHRC Code of Practice has been published. UCU is examining it urgently.
This is a significant and unsettling moment and we will not leave branches to navigate it alone.
Employers' duties under equality and employment law remain in force; this does not change that.
We've written to @UniversitiesUK: universities and colleges are responsible for protecting staff and students, not putting them at risk through rushed or inconsistent decisions.
UCU will organise, defend, and fight for the rights of trans and non-binary people.

Sporting bodies have run out of excuses. #TheLawIsTheLaw#ProtectWomensSport
259 days to tell organisations that the Supreme Court ruling happened over a year ago, that they have to comply with *the law* as it stands (since 2010), and that they may have been getting aspects of it wrong on single sex provision...
