You've found the start of THE daily Ukraine thread for Day 1584 of Russia's war on its peaceful neighbour.
There seems to be a growing feeling we are at the very start of the end of the war. We have begun "Zelenskyy's 40 days", and more results are visible this morning:
Tightening the logistical lockdown of the Russian army and launching the first open tender for a record procurement of middle-strike drones. In recent months, Ukraine has significantly increased its middle-strike capabilities and initiated a logistical lockdown of the Russian army.
Thanks to increased contracting of these drones, the Ukrainian military is systematically destroying Russian logistics, supply depots, command posts, equipment, and other targets. Over the past six months, the number of strikes at the operational depth of the frontline has increased nearly tenfold. This has enabled the launch of a campaign to isolate Crimea and reinforced Ukraine's advantage on the battlefield.
The Birds congratulate Commander Magyar and his wife, callsign Wings, on their 30th wedding anniversary.
Below are the Commander’s own words.
The pearls have been tempered. Thirty years of marriage, more than four of them during wartime.
Love during war lives – it does not merely exist, even if it is no longer about flowers.
Guardian and Wings of the unit, you hold my universe together.
Wings arrived at the unit once again on June 22, 2022 – and stayed. In the autumn of 2022, she was mobilized and joined what was then still a tactical group. Care, patronage, constant psychological strain at the very edge, a shield standing between tragedy and loved ones – a true frontline of compassion.
The next anniversary will be the sun wedding – tanned by the sun.
Let’s keep working. We have a chance to switch our Ukrainian Crimea back on.

JUST PASSING THROUGH: Breaching what was once considered the most heavily defended airspace on earth, a Ukrainian AN-196 ‘Lyutyy' strike drone sails undisturbed over downtown Moscow. And in broad daylight, too.

Thursday 25 June is Day 1583 of Russia's attempt to remove Ukraine from the map, and eradicate its culture and history.
Each day I round up all the significant news, with analysis and local knowledge to put together a new thread - all the news you need in one place.
Let's go:
My sister Maya and I were profoundly shaped by the influence of our mom, Ann Dunham. Giving Maya a preview of the Obama Presidential Center, including a new sculpture by Maya Lin dedicated to our mom’s memory, was truly special.
Magyar's update on Crimean wormography:
Air-defense collapse and the cleansing of Crimea from worms.

This is one of my favorite anecdotes from this job. 36 years ago, President George HW Bush received the President of Bolivia, Jaime Paz (accompanied by his young sons) at the White House, and Paz gave Bush a golden family cross. Bush wrote Paz a characteristically gracious thank-you note and said that he would give instructions to return the family heirloom when one of the Paz boys became President. As fate would have it, one of them, Rodrigo Paz, was elected President of Bolivia last year. The Bush Library promptly contacted us, and yesterday in Doral @SecRubio returned the cross to the new President Paz with a copy of the note. And the best part? President Rodrigo Paz was able to share this story with his now 86-year-old father. Kudos to all, especially the @Bush41Library. Promises made, promises kept! 🇺🇸🤝🇧🇴
@atrupar Sooo… if he deletes tweets every 90 days for cybersecurity… does that make it like they never were tweeted in the first place? Is that what he’s wanting us to believe?
We will never forget.
Today marks the third anniversary of the murder of two Ukrainian heroes — Tigran Oganesyan and Mykyta Khanganov.
Two 16-year-old schoolboys from Berdiansk who became symbols of unbreakable resistance. They were among the first to tear down the russian tricolor in their occupied city, openly defying the occupiers.
For this, they were abducted, tortured, and falsely labeled “terrorists.” On June 24, 2023, russians executed them in cold blood in occupied Berdiansk.
They did not break. They did not bow. They did not surrender.
Their courage lives on. Their names echo through time.
We remember. We honor. We stand.
Tigran and Mykyta — forever in our hearts.
Hello, it's Day 1582 of Ukraine's heroic defence against the (not so) mighty Russian army.
You've found the start of another daily thread covering all things to do with the war (except the gory bits)
It was such a joy getting to spend time with Joe and Jill, George and Laura, and Bill and Hillary last week. Barack and I will always be grateful for your constant friendship and support of our family over the years.
(And George, thanks for the mints!)
A «lonely» Ukrainian housewife traded WhatsApp messages with a Chechen commander for months. "Send me a picture," she asked. He photographed himself and a map of his unit's position pinned on the wall behind him.
The housewife did not exist — The Atlantic. 1/
