During the reign of Mary I, Sir Thomas Wyatt led a rebellion to instate Princess Elizabeth as queen. The rebellion failed; Wyatt was imprisoned @TowerofLondon, tried for treason & sentenced to death on 15 March 1554. As a result, Elizabeth herself was also sent to the Tower.
On 18 March 1554 Princess Elizabeth, future Elizabeth I, was imprisoned @TowerofLondon by Mary I. It was where her mother Anne Boleyn had been imprisoned & executed in 1536. For a long time it was believed that Elizabeth was held in the Upper Bell Tower, although this is disputed
