As pro-palestine as I am, I'm baffled by arguments like this. Young, armed, hate filled men of any political persuasion have always, throughout history, indulged in rape as a tool of war.
I really don't think lack of filming of these events mean the women made them up.
Norm Finkelstein discussing the alleged sexual violence committed on October 7 by Hamas: "I hope your viewers hear this. There is not one single frame of Hamas committing rape or sexual violence. Bear in mind, there's not only just an absence of any digital evidence which would take SEVEN months to go through. Of all the various technological paraphernalia; CCTV, traffic cameras, body cam, dash cam, GoPro. Not one of rape. Not one of sexual violence. Not one frame."
@Quietnthechaos I've said this a bunch of times in the thread and in quotes, but I'm referring more to the hostages who came forward with accounts than anybody on October 7th. I don't believe the October 7th mass SA claims.
@starsalwayslost I'm not an expert, but I did some searches. Amit Soussana has the strongest case based on what I can find. But others like Romi Gonen, Guy Gilboa-Dalal (a male), and Ilana Gritzewsky are pretty prominent names.
@erickliebler1 I absolutely am disgusted by that. In every level the actions of the Israeli government have been utterly psychotic and evil since October 7th.
@Bazloan@marccyKT Almost any man is capable of that. I've seen far more horrendous behavior on the part of Israeli IDF soldiers and ESPECIALLY settlers than on the part of Palestinian activists.
@lovebornee That's fair. I do think it happens less in modern conflict, and some movements may have been able to successfully ward off any of their members taking part. My only remaining pessimism is that it always just takes one person. But I'll concede that it doesn't need to happen.
@jsjxjdndjixjevs@PaxJudaicaSigns@TheWageClown@KrisJones2261 Late reply, but "maybe Emmet Till did do it" and "beleive Israeli women" are not equivalent, and it's uniquely nasty to say they are. A woman is not predetermined to be a liar because of her nationality, no matter how nasty the state is.
@lovebornee Sounds like disciplined groups are involved in those conflicts. I'd push back and mention warfare in the Congo, Sudan, and Ukraine. Sudan especially you see SA on all sides of that conflict.
@whatever5681@WitnessAngels If you said I was a horrible monster who SA'd you, it would be seen as silly because this is the first we've interacted, even then it could be investigated to make sure. A woman held in Hamas custody, around these men for months, has more credibility due to that, right?
@fearthe_void What's wrong with what I said? Is it because there was a ratio? They said nobody came forward, I produced two people that came forward (that means I beat that claim), and then they said one of the people who came forward was unreliable. I don't know if that's true or not.
@marccyKT White, black, brown it doesn't matter. This tweet is about angry young men being given power over others, and keeping an open mind to what they're capable of. I could have made a similar tweet about Israeli settlers.
@Skyfrom5to7 I don't take the word of the Israeli government, I seriously consider the word of hostages that spent months in Hamas custody and might not be able to produce evidence because of that. They could still be lying, but I don't know, and I don't feel comfortable, as a man, deciding.
@bunkercat15 I'm not going to call a woman who may have been a hostage for months and cannot produce physical evidence for her claims due to that a liar. It's not my place. This doesn't mean I don't support Palestinian freedom and sovereignty.
@theSayyid808 I would say the same of Israeli settlers and young white nationalists. My message here was universalist. Sorry that got lost in translation.
@DoctorVite68598@WitnessAngels I just looked a few up, I don't see evidence of sexual assault. Interesting to note. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen this time.
