@alexsteed These stories act as a filter, when the audience laughs _with_ you about the trauma, you know you're safe.
The dark humor, quiet 'it's fucking amazing we're still alive's, and defiant vulnerability are green flags.

@urlichsanais Startups are often about taking responsibility for things you see needing done.
Big companies are often highly avoidant of people who take ownership and _expect_ others to be responsible for what they seem to own.
A thing I always liked to ask orgs I was doing reviews for is "tell me your process for scheduled downtime".
And if they don't have one, it means that somewhere in that org is a critical system that needs downtime but has never had it & soon it will be unscheduled downtime.
This. Blameless does not mean we don’t acknowledge who pulled the wrong lever, but that we don’t stop trying to understand there.
Why did they think that was the right action, how do we fix _that_.
Excerpt from a soon-to-be-released blog with a line too good not to share on its own:
"a lot of startup founders and VCs will tell you that it's 'premature optimization' but what they're really saying is 'you can sell your technical debt on exit'."
Tip from an old dad:
When your young kids are playing at a playground, and it’s approaching time to leave, they won’t respond well if you say “Okay, time to leave, come here!”
Give them more heads-up. And not based in time — they won’t understand. Instead, say something like “Okay, we are getting ready to leave — but I’ll give you FIVE more trips around the playground! Go fast!”
This worked great with my kids over the years. They didn’t feel cheated, because I was generous with the amount of “final trips around the playground”, and it gave them a bit of time to adjust to the fun time coming to an end.
HOW TO REPAIR DENIM
I think some of the disposability we see in fashion today is a result of people simply not knowing how clothes can be repaired. When things get worn out, they toss them. So, I'll do a series on how certain garments can be repaired, starting with jeans. 🧵
one way to help curb the excesses of fast fashion is to encourage ppl to value the patina and wear-and-tear that good clothes develop. that way, they: 1) buy less, buy better; 2) buy vintage; 3) wear things. examples
1. King Charles' patched-up suit (see hem)
2. King Charles' patched-up shoes
3. Vintage Lee 101-J trucker jacket with a repaired collar (collar has been repaired by hand with a bit of oxford cloth). Vintage denim garments are also great in that they're softer and often have natural fades (rather than pre-distressed fades that don't always look very convincing)
4. Old sweatshirts (easy to find vintage; just search eBay and Etsy for vintage Russell Athletic). Looks great with old jeans and boots
I’m not a big burning man fan, but I wish people got that the tech bros are disliked by most bm folks too.
But what am I saying? This is X it’s not for nuance or awareness, just dunking.
these people are so narcissistically embedded in their main character energy that they will pretend a muddy festival is the same as a moral pilgrimage. Big performative Ayahuasca Bro energy with these Silicon Valley ppl, which is maybe why innovation gave way to grocery apps.
Q: Why should relationship and sex education be an early and ongoing part of child development?
A: Because if it isn't then they're all getting their information on how to treat one another from other kids with fewer seasons under their belt than the show you just binged.
@AudreyAshes The worst, hate it when a decent job with good people ends up sucking because shit management.
Fingers crossed for this being a good stepping stone to the next better thing.
I see we are doing "how are you" discourse again.
As an ND person, may I introduce you to "I'm hanging in there." That is social script for "I am not OK, I do not want to talk about it."
They will probably say "I hear you." And they do. You have shared a moment of exhaustion.
Well, the FIND OUT era continues for Speaker Sexton and his extremist caucus.
