"I stand on the sacrifices of a million women before me, thinking what can I do to make this mountain taller so the women after me can see farther" -Rupi Kaur
Bioinformatics is hard before you even write a single line of code. Here's why.
1/ You haven’t started your DNA-seq analysis.
You haven’t aligned a read.
And yet you’ve already hit a wall.

Today, we remember the precious children whose lives touched so many hearts.
We grieve with the families whose dreams have been shattered and whose hearts carry an indescribable pain. May God grant you the courage to face each day.

In my early 20s, I wrote a list of ambitious things I wanted to do in life. Go bungee jumping. Create a movie. Start a business. That sort of thing. I did a few of them, but not most.
Looking back, however, that list was incredibly valuable because it taught me the usefulness of chasing bold ideas—even if they never materialize. The dreams that didn't happen changed shape and led me down other interesting paths.
The important thing isn't to achieve all your dreams, but to keep dreaming. Your desires change as you learn and grow. Old dreams will spawn new dreams. And eventually, one of these newer, more refined visions will find its moment and become reality.
My advice to anyone starting out:
Develop a very strong opinion about yourself.
Know exactly who you are & who you are not.
If you don't, someone else will try to tell you who you are, and you might just start believing them.
Maybe that’s the thing about being a daddy’s girl. You never really outgrow it because your dad never really lets your hands go and he never lets your whimsy die.🥺❤️
So I hope that in another lifetime, I’m still my father’s daughter. That I still get his face, his smile, his resilience, his strictness, his constant desire to spoil the people he loves far more than necessary, his hustling spirit, and the little mannerisms that make me stop and think, “Ah… that’s definitely my father.”

You can take things seriously without taking them personally.
Our tendency is to turn any criticism or complaint into a personal attack. We reply to it, defend against it, build a counter-argument, lose sleep over it.
You don't have to eat everything that is served to you. You can respond to criticism without digesting criticism. Take what's useful, do your best to improve, and leave the rest.
Many situations in life are similar to going on a hike: the view changes once you start walking.
You don't need all the answers right now. New paths will reveal themselves if you have the courage to get started.
In the modern world, it is easy to feel like a passenger: reacting to notifications, responding to demands, consuming whatever you happen to drive past on your screen.
But joy is found in being the driver. It's the act of looking at the raw material of your circumstances — your time, your energy, your relationships, your skills — and seeing what you can make from it.
It is the act of creating the life you want (in big and small ways) that makes you feel alive and imbues life with extra meaning. The fact that you can hold a vision in your mind and then, however imperfectly, bend reality a few degrees in that direction.
I can't control the other person's behavior, but I can control my response. Their actions may be rude or unacceptable, but I still want my response to be measured and thoughtful. Even if they aren't doing what is right, I still want to make sure I'm doing what is right.
Building a business is an underrated form of therapy because, to grow your business, you must grow yourself. 10 times out of 10, the thing holding back the business is you.
A reminder from Atomic Habits:
New goals don't deliver new results. New lifestyles do. And a lifestyle is a process, not an outcome. For this reason, all of your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results.
